A lot of it is due to shipping issues we have raised in the news a lot recently

if it is shipping issues there should be a ton of cards on containerships and in warehouses? :)

but i doubt that shipping issues are really the problem.

i have bought stuff on ebay the last months that ships from china and it arrived in time.

It's the shipping. Covid has taken its toll, and shipping is the biggest issue. You can't compare several containers to something you bought on Ebay that goes into a postman's sack, then probably on a plane, then your postman brings it to you. The whole logistics of shipping right now is a nightmare.

This is why I bought my computer as soon as I knew this stuff was happening (March). As it stands? I couldn't buy it again for the same price some 10 months later.

Because of all of the hoops shipping companies are now having to jump through and less shipments going the price has gone up. And that is without even going back to supply, which again will suffer when something like this is going on.

the delivery needed 28+ days, i doubt that it shipped per airmail. :)

i don´t say shipping did not take a hit.

but imo it is more likely that production at TSMC and samsung is the root problem.

that may be related to shipping products too these companys.

cards do arrive at resellers but the numbers are ridiculously low.
if it is just shippment, the situation in asia has to be much better, not?

the word from nivida is also that they are not able to produce enough cards.

We expect the overall channel inventories, meaning the inventories that are with our AIC partners as well as in our e-tail and retail channels will likely remain lean throughout Q1. Our overall capacity has not been able to keep up with that overall strong demand that we have seen,”
that there are enough cards out there but they are stuck in some shipping queue is something i find hard to believe.

crypto-mining, shipping, production issues, high demand.
no idea what has the biggest influence.

one thing is sure.... the MSRP for CPU/GPU products at the moment is a sad joke.

It's shipping, most of the cards are made in china and even when things are normal they have to pay extra fees just to get it out of customs quicker in a situation like this it'd only be worse, add to that a lot of big companies are going broke look into cruise ships being scrapped that are only a few years old and it's not just them kind of ships going belly up.

Apple brought most all the air freight made deals so even getting it on a plane is a hard thing atm, it is what it is and it won't get better for a long while yet, hence why companies are selling direct to miners cause most likely they can't move them anyways.

well i am no shipping expert i am an engineer. :)
but all i read is that demand for shipping has declining in 2020.

The rapid spread of coronavirus has had a major impact on global shipping markets, with the slump in demand for goods from China having a ripple effect on everything from container ships to oil tankers. In part 1 of our coronavirus special, we look at how it has unfolded so far.

.....
According to figures from Chinese think-tank the Shanghai International Shipping Institute, this led to reduced capacity utilisation – which fell between 20% and 50% at the biggest Chinese ports
if that is the case there should be plenty of container space to ship GPU´s?
or what im getting wrong here?

again... if you say that shipping problems affects MAKING these cards, the production... ok.
but that the finished product can not reach america/europe .. i don´t get it.

Many shipments can be forced into a quarantine period. Now given the lack of space, you couldnt ship every container globally to the UK and they have space for them all. This sets a backlog. Meaning a large amount of containers waiting to be shipped in the home country, or warehouses flooded with products they cannot ship yet. That and also many other reasons that we don't think of.

the Music store I purchase from is still waiting for a shipment they state is stuck in china. Its packed in a container but has not left the country in 3months. Throw this in with the quarantine period, AND the fact that rosewood is on the endangered species list, I wont see my new guitar for a while.

Everybody is talking about these very expensive GPU's. And the absolute desire to eventually owning one of these. I must be living on a different planet as money these days and all around is super tight and good paying 'career type jobs' are basically non-existing. Most college degrees are now worthless as well and as real tangible experience is the key. And then the unresolved pandemic forcing WFH being the new normal. A close friend knowing the great benefit packages and starting salaries, applied at NIKE HQ in Portland, OR and was told that they had over 262 resumes and or job applicants on hand for the position. He did not qualify and is now back at 'Best Buy' to tie himself over and to eat. On his way out at NIKE a friendly security guard told him: "The good jobs here are not advertised they are all networked!" So I still wonder where does all the money for the big time new GPU's is coming from? From out of space?

I am very frugal with my lifestyle, No luxuries, Very Spartan living, For example, I do not drink, Smoke, Partake in any substances, I don't buy designer clothes or expensive colognes, I don't buy new smartphones every year, Don't even own a smartphone, My internet is super cheap, Slow but stable and cheap.

The food I eat is basic but nutritious, I only drink water and don't consume anything that my body doesn't need, Same goes for my apartment, It's minimalistic, Nothing fancy, Very basic but practical, No girlfriend either and relationships can get very expensive.

All of this adds up over time, My only luxury in life is PC stuff and I am not alone in this type of living.

Yeah, it's true that there are many who are now sadly living below the poverty line due to the current climate and could not afford a new PC even with strict budgeting.

However there are also many who choose to spend what money they have on very specific things, making it appear that they're well off when in fact they live frugally, something others are not used to. They're used to buying a coffee each day, a new t-shirt here and there, using their car when they could walk, wasting food, subscription services, Amazon knick-knacks, not turning off lights. It all adds up. Card tapping now makes it so easy to make small purchases that, at the end of each month, sees your bank account drained.

For a long time I was living on €200 per week. Yet I was able to afford a good PC, guitars, phones, etc. I did that because I never went out, didn't own a car, didn't go on holidays, etc. Everything that I had left over at the end of each week went to buying stuff I wanted. That's it. Now I have very little money for 'stuff' because I'm passionate about bodybuilding, health, and food.
