Don't use Steam right now

So Valve have apparently messed up the caching in the steam store meaning that if you are using the store/associated URLS or a few hours before (written at 21:0025/12/15), there is a chance that people will be able to see your account information. We're talking payment details etc.

-edit- TLDR DO NOT TOUCH STEAM, even if you are already logged in

I'm assuming I can safely click 'Quit Steam' or will this count as account activity?

Was already wondering why both Steam and steampowered.com were down earlier today.

While that in theory shouldn't do anything as I think it uses a different database (the store database was the one playing lotto with peoples info) valve are being silent on this so I'd leave it be for now. If you do log out chances are it won't make your details open as they appear to have shutdown the store for now.

Hehe how is this little piece of text tldr?

ehh yeah anyway this is one weird issue they got, it does appear the case isnt hacked as a lot of people suggested on forums/twitter so thats good.

So basically don't visit anything on the store and you should be fine, but just to be careful don't use Steam all-together for a bit?

Fair enough

Where did you get this information from?... Got a link or something regarding this?...

(Friend asks, since I don't use Steam personally.)

Not that I don't believe you, but where does this info come from?

Twitter is blowing up about it and I saw some randomers account details when I went to the store.

Typically Steam are being silent about it. SteamDB are giving out some information though and as far as third parties involved with steam go, they're very solid in terms of information. Here is their twitter

Looks like PC gamer have written an article about it too. They've said what I've said already but I'm sure you'll appreciate a source that isn't me.

I don't know if this is related to this or not, but someone has gotten hold of my debit card details and bought stuff with it. Luckily, my bank stopped some of the transactions due to them being made on a PC using a different IP than mine. A £198 Sports Direct order and a £80 hotel bill were made using my details yesterday and the early hours of this morning.

As I said, i'm not sure if it has anything to do with this or not, but I can't think of anything else happening or anyother way someone could have gotten my card details.

Check your statements to make sure no one is using your card details to buy things just incase.

Aren't all of the card details starred out except the last 4 digits on Steam ?

I don't know to be honest, i'm not sure if it is related to this or not.
All I know is someone has gotten hold of my card details in the last few days and this is the only thing I can think of that might of caused it to happen.

I just thought it best to make a post about it just incase anyone else might have had their details stolen :)

Thanks for the warning mate. Good thing I only use Paypal on Steam and don't let it save the details.
