But the average speed doesn't tell the full story.
A lot of households in Denmark is getting fiber, but my parents only had 25/25Mbps for a long time, but the ISP upgraded to 100/100. And they can get 500/500 if they wanted.
100/100 = 299 DKK = 36£
500/500 = 449 DKK = 55£
I'm living in an apartment block, and still using cobber(COAX), and i have the biggest pack possible. And we are locked to that ISP, unless we want to go the old ASDL way
300/60 with a discount 349 DKK = 42£

Long story short, they should look into the max possible speed/price, not what the 50+ wants to pay for
And i think my buddy in Norwich are more ed by the quality of the line, than by the speed

Not sure about this Spain has awful Internet speeds. UK/France problem is people are spread out over so many different places. In other parts of Europe most of the population lives in 3 or 4 cities, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Eastern Europe etc.

Myself I barely had an upload speed until about 2012 now it's not too bad. I'm not on Fiber either.

You are kidding aren't you? The UK has almost triple the population of Australia yet a land mass of about 3% of Australia. I live in the second biggest city in my state with a population of a whole 110k and I can get up to 100/50mbit VDSL2. My brother was living in a small country town with a population of < 500 yet he still had access to the same type of connection.
You could wire up the entire UK with fibre for less then what it would cost us in Australia to wire up a single state...

Unhappy Well my net speed is even slower that any of those

My net as its highest is 3.9Mbps upload and download is 0.9 on average and never goes much higher if ever, half the time I struggle watching youtube videos in 720p, and can rarely use my webcam, I live in the North East of the UK if you're wondering.

not really that surprised, internet is bloody expensive and coverage gets worse the more north you go typically.

It sure does, I sent a pigeon 2 days ago and I'm still waiting for a reply.

I've recently switched to Virgin after they cabled my street. Download speeds are great, getting over 200. Uploads have slowed down vs Plusnet. Now get 12Mbps. It's ridiculous, I don't need synced upload/download but you would hope they can do 50 up at least.

So they spend money to dig up the street, but don't but down fiber???

As long as you have options to select speeds it is fine. In Serbia we can get maximum of 150/8 Mb/s, and it is about 45 euros/month. But there is a note "up to", and it is never that close to max speeds. There is no option for higher. I have heard that you can sell your kidney and afford to equalize your up, and down speeds. But in general it is pathetic.
