Alleged Ryzen 9 5900X CPU-Z Scores Leak - Impressive Performance Gains

How does it compare to Intels offerings? Do they match single core performance?

The first score I found for a i9-10900 is 643 but I have no clue if that is representative for that CPU or not.

If it is, then I suppose it is good that AMD finally matches Intel ... but Intels has been on the market for some time and is on 14(++++) node. So just matching when being newer AND rocking 7nm is hardly impressive. If they use (much) less power to get the same performance, then I will say that is a big thing though, for anyone who cares about how much energy we use. Not sure how many we are though...

According to leaks, it performance up to 16% faster than the 10900k

I'm more into the 'at least xxx% better'. Not fault on your part, but 'up to' is essentially meaningless. It can be in a workload type that is never executed in real life.

Well that is the thing with leaks. Wording is vague or chosen very careful to prevent blowback. No site can claim "performance = xx or over xx%" because if they are wrong, their reputation is tarnished very, very quickly.

We can only comment on what we see. Leaks are just guesstimates for me. Reviews and actual benches with proper drivers are the selling point. However it feels like these last few months, all leaks from the sites I peruse have been accurate. Especially on the RTX 30xx shortages, performance, pricing. And then there is the leaked 3090 benchmarks which surprised me but were correct and downright disappointing.

True. Good thing is that there now are several 'serious' review sites (including this one) so it is very much possible to quickly get real and hard data once reviews are out and we don't have to rely on marketing material !

If AMD indeed takes the Single Thread performance lead then I cannot wait to see what intel does. Or if they CAN do anything... I mean, there are no arguments left other than "it's the platform you have used for many years". While that may be true, it will hardly be enough for the majority. I have not been on AMD since Athlon (!) because they were always slower. I want the performance for games, and that performance has always been plenty for 'productivity'. For the same reason, I could not care less that i get 10 extra free cores with AMD systems. They would just sit there doing noting and my games would run slightly slower. But that could all change now. Exciting times.

In some tasks AMD is already in the lead for single threaded performance - mainly ones which don't care at all about memory performance like Cinebench. They need to work on latency between CCX units and cache/memory latency in general in order to take the gaming crown.

Yeah apparently latency is massively down, thanks to more cache. It's not just that though, there was more to it but I've forgotten lol.

Edit. Just watching a vid now. It's not more cache, it's one piece of cache rather than two. Which will bring down latency massively.

It's now one CCX on one CCD full 8 core with 32mb cache. So if only one core is using it that core now has loads more cache.

BTW Mark that is where I got the info from about it hitting 5ghz. He's a nice guy, very grounded and real. Kinda like an Irish AdoredTV.

Same difference: unintelligible speech, booze, trad music, sheep.

:D:D:D

hahaha !

Sheep. God. That brings back memories. City boy here, London born and bred. My mate was Irish, and his parents had a house in Southern Ireland in the bowels of freakin nowhere. So he introduces me to this girl and I fell in love. We went over in winter and it snowed like nuts. The walk from his house to his aunt's farm was about an hour, and on the way we found two sheep that were tied together (there's a reason farmers do it) any way, a pair of them had fallen into a ditch so I jumped in in my brand new city boy coat and tore the crap out of it rescuing these bloody sheep.

My mum went nuts when I got back. I was only 16 and she spent a fortune on this coat :D

Man that was a long journey. About 8 hours on the coach to Holyhead, then a 10? hour or so ferry crossing and then a 4 hour coach journey on the other side. Proper mission.

Not much has changed to be honest. :p
