Scythe cooler vs. water cooler for the new 8700k

Hello everyone, let me start off by saying I am completely new to PC building i have always bought/used a Laptop but my son wanted a Gaming PC for his Bday so i bought a used tower upon trying to upgrade the Graphix card i found out it was outdated so decided to build a new one .. So when my build included the 7700K (before i realize the 8700k was less then 4 weeks from launch), I was looking for advise on a cooler I was steered away from water coolers because of there potential to leak. I know anything can happen but is the Fail rate that high? I was recommended to use the Mugen 5 Scythe cooler (link below) Now that reviews are out for the 8700K some say it runs kinda hot. Sp whats everyones thoughts .. Will the Mugen5 be just fine for the 8700K is there a better option? Should i go water.. whats the best water cooler will low fail rate.. no budget just want the best cooler for the build.

Thank you everyone in advance for any advise!

Build I have so far ; G.Skill -Trident Z RGB - 4x8gb 3200mhz, Samsung 500gb 960 evo m.2 ssd, EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2, 80+psu, MSI armor gtx 1060 6gb (bought this first to upgrade existing pc found out could not use so this is why im building a new PC, plan to upgrade to 1080 once prices come back down to earth), thermaltake view 31 case w/ 6 corsair HD120 rgb fans, win 10, 4tb hhd, .. Still waiting for 8700k, need to buy a board, and a cooler yet ..I am new to all this but trying to put this all together for my son for Xmas.

(was asking Tom what he thinks is the best Mobo to get for the 8700K but if anyone has an opinion on what is the best Mobo i'd appreciate any advise TY)
