I think you'd be better off with the 12 core considering it has a higher base block. Keep in mind that AMD X CPU's don't automatically turbo boost to the listed speeds when stressing all the cores...

By that kind of thinking it would mean that all the large 2-3 fan cards would also overheat, as they all blow the air from their heat sink directly onto the PCB. No it just doesn't work like that......
