Ubisoft says The Crew will be unlocked from 30fps on PC

Quite recently, there has been a flurry of rumours and reports that upcoming games are going to be locked at 30 frames per second on PC. We're lookin' at you, Evil Within!

It appears that now there has been a reversal of fortune! The upcoming open-world racing game: The Crew was trialled in a closed BETA with an artificial 30fps lock. However, now it seems that Ubisoft has had a sudden change of heart. Lead Designer of 'The Crew', Serkan Hassan has confirmed that Ubisoft is following through on a promise (albeit a very uncertain one) they made, many moons ago: The PC version will be playable at 60fps, once the full game is released.

Hassan says: "Ultimately the performance and the frame rate will be down to the players hardware," he said. "A few people in the closed beta found ways of unlocking the frame rate. My understanding at this moment is that we'll be allowing players to do that come the full version as well, unless some other issue comes to light which would block that in any way."

The bad news that also comes with this little gem is that the game has been delayed until 2nd of December, which is of course due to the tweaks that is probably required to allow the game to reach 60fps.

The game is also going to feature micro-transactions, which will allow players to upgrade their cars by paying for the parts with real world money. The system appears to be similar to the money making model found in many free-to-play games.

Personally, I despise the free-to-play model. I feel it ruins games as there will always be those with money who choose to pay their way to the top. It's that simple. It also adds extra 'grind' time to most games, meaning you have to really, really work at something to make any progress. I believe this game had a lot of potential, as anyone who has played Assassin's Creed, Far Cry or Watch Dogs will know, Ubisofts open world games work really well. But at least The Crew will be at 60fps for PC users now... We've got that going for us, which is nice.

So true

There was already an option to unlock the framerate in the second beta (not the config file, in game). So it's not really news.

Pay to win on a game you are going to pay for in the first place tells me not to bother buying it. which is a shame I like racing games

this console influencing pc games stuff is starting to really get on my nerves.

It's so annoying! As PC users/gamers we were all getting excited that the move of consoles to what are essentially modified gaming PCs was going to mean better PC ports and pushes in technology for better graphics and all that good stuff. What has come to be is the complete opposite. WTF developers!?? I know I don't understand the ins and outs of it but surely it should be easier to produce high quality ports now than it was before.

Maybe the silver lining for us pc gamers will be that the disappointing performance of "next-gen" consoles will bring more to the PC platform

Would such issues include being given a load of money by Microsoft or Sony to lock it at 30 fps?

"AMD, NVIDIA, you guys shouldn't even bother anymore, we locked the games at 30 fps so benchmarks will be pretty much the same, yeah..."
