'Payday: The Heist' free for 24 hours this week!
If you haven't played any of the Payday games then now is definitely the time to reconsider. For 24 hours only, Payday: The Heist will be completely free to download and keep. This action packed FPS lets players take on the role of a hardened career criminal executing intense, dynamic heists in constant pursuit of the next “big score”. With 6 major heists, 4-player co-op and DLC available means that that free is a very good price indeed. Other freebies include a golden AK-47, the Old Hoxton character pack DLC and a mask from Bain.

Developers Overkill are giving away the game to celebrate the Payday 2 Steam group reaching over 1.5 million members. You will be able to claim your free copy of Payday: The Heist on Steam starting from 10AM Pacific time on Thursday the 16th of October. For those of us in the UK, 10AM pacific works out as 6PM GMT. Remember, this offer will only be valid for 24 hours.

The game giveaway was supposed to take place on the 18th of October but the massively positive community response forced Overkill to bring the date forward a little. Overkill seemed rather excited to have made it to the 1.5M mark and also promised more free DLC once it had finished development.

It's good to see developers and distributors working well together to bring free content to gamers. With the EA 'On The House' promotions offering some damn good games like Dragon Age: Origins for free and the occasional 'Free for 24 hours' style promotions which seem to be gaining momentum, there is a lot to gain from being a PC gamer ;)

The more people that get in on this sort of thing, the better! If developers trial it and it proves to be successful, more and more devs will join in and make it a sexy party. Free games for all! :D
