New AV setup....nearly there...

Hi Guys

I've been pretty busy recently ensuring that my movie/gaming/office room is up to date with all the kit I need to have an awesome movie and music experience

I'm nearly done, just waiting for a decent HDMI cable (QED) to come through and get tidied away...then that's it.

Speakers are still being being run in so I can't have it blasting yet, but it sounds amazing :D

Kit:

TV:

Panasonic TH-42PZ80B 1080p High Def Plasma

Console:

Sony Playstation 3 with 250GB HDD (via HDMI)

Blu Ray Player:

Panasonic DMP-BD35 (via HDMI)

AV Receiver:

Denon AVR-1909

Speakers:

Fronts: Mordaunt Short 906i

Quality silver-plated Bi-Wire

Rears:

Fronts: Mordaunt Short 903i

200 strand oxygen-free copper

Centre:

Fronts: Mordaunt Short 905i

Quality silver-plated Bi-Wire

I am looking at getting a nice desktop stand for my centre so I'll show that when I can find a nice one.

PC (awaiting Project Aqua Vitae to be finished so ignore the case for now)

Connected VIA DVI-HDMI to the Plasma and Optical Out to the Denon.

Dell 2407WFP Monitor

Right, less talk and more pics!

Note that the spare cable hanging down will be replaced and tidied.

FleX.overclock3d 12-02-09 09:56 PM

very nice mate, you might of seen my office thread in the other part of the forums, anyways Ive just got myself some new Sony Floor Standing speakers myself for my living room, these will be hooked up via some QED cabling to my Sony STRDA2400ES Amp (when I order soon) I will have a Sony PS3 via hdmi (160Gb) and an Xbox Elite (120Gb) via hdmi also into a Samsung 40'' tv. Ill make my own thread soon, Anyways enjoy your kit its all very nice gear!!

FarFarAway 12-02-09 09:58 PM

Nope haven't seen it mate :)

Thanks, I certainly will enjoy the True HD :p

My living room setup is seperate from my gamin/movies/PC room so I didn't bother posting it here. Of course, I've got a nice setup there too:

TV:

Samsung LE32M87BDX 32"

Sony BDP-S350 Blu Ray Player via HDMI/Optical

Sky+ (via SCART/Phono)

Samsung HT-X30 Home Cinema System

FleX.overclock3d 12-02-09 10:01 PM

its in rig gallery mate.

What do you think of the TrueHD sound from Blu Rays?

True HD/DTS MA HD is a big difference. The sound is so much clearer and more directional than DD/DTS. I really notice the difference.

mrapoc 12-02-09 11:14 PM

He only wants to make us jealous..and succeeds

Im saving up for a decent stereo / 2.1 set next - anything is better than cheap 5.1 "pc" speakers

Nice setup you have there, iv always wanted a AV room :yumyum:

Im aiming to go from a good stereo/2.1 setup, upgrade the amp/decoder and add the rest of the surround...but that will probably be after uni lol xD

FarFarAway 12-02-09 11:22 PM

That's a good way to go mate. Deffo get a solid AV Receiver first with HDMI HD Audio. yes they're like 230+ (for the cheapest), but it's worth it.

AntiHeroUK 13-02-09 12:10 AM

That's a great setup Kempez. :)

Currently I can only dream of something similar as funds don't allow for it atm.

nathan 13-02-09 07:50 AM

loving the amp, your making me want to start to update my system.

Dav0s 13-02-09 09:54 AM

hehe, does the female not let you have all this in the sitting room? or you like your man space?

PV5150 13-02-09 10:04 AM

Loving the setup Kempez...very nice.

Well this way I get my own space where I can watch and listen to what I want, when I want!

Rastalovich 13-02-09 01:43 PM

Lots of quality stuffs

Can u get an AV receiver that will mix/fade inputs ? As opposed to just selection of 1 at a time ?

would that not be more of a mixer?

Rastalovich 13-02-09 08:13 PM

I'm in a quandry really.

I want a box that'll take 4/5 digital inputs (screw all the 50million other inputs) upto 7.1 output to speakers and allow a mixture of all the inputs to be outputted.

Be nice if they all had a dial and u could vary them all. Pretty much all the ones I've seen just allow selection of 1 source only.

FarFarAway 13-02-09 09:18 PM

Not being funny lads but that's well OT, even for OC3D

Take it to it's own thread.

Kerotan 13-02-09 09:26 PM

That looks sweet, the day I get my first real paycheck is the day I invest in some quality amps, speakers and a pair of Technics 1200s!

Must be awesome to sit right at the back of that room and watch an action flick, like being at the cinema! :)

themcman1 13-02-09 10:27 PM

Do you have PlayStation Network?

Nice setup, wanted to set something like this up but me + large amounts of wire = large mess.

Yep deffo worth investing in AV stuffs. Sitting at the back of the room is about as close as I'll get in this room to a cinema, sounds awesome!

I got my trunking (similiar to Kempz) a BnQ.. quite cheap really.

FarFarAway 22-02-09 02:45 PM

Yep B&Q is the place to get it :)

Am probably doing a big re-shuffle again next month, moving the desk to the left :)

BloomerzUK 22-02-09 03:20 PM

Inspires me to get a decent sound card and a 5.1 system..

mrapoc 22-02-09 04:07 PM

Cool B&Q

Hopefully gonna go from 5.1 to that good stereo setup in july this year :yumyum:

That would make a few less cables too :D

Socks 22-02-09 06:32 PM

FleX.overclock3d 23-02-09 11:30 AM

Right time for another update!

Still have the desk (it was made by my missus's Dad as a B-Day present when she was little so it's a permanent fixture!), but have now re-organised the room a little and got down to Ikea too. Plan is to start adding a little red to the room to go with the fronts of the cabinet.

Also wired up my Panasonic DMP-BD35 with a LAN cable and aside from a big pile of wires on the floor, cabling is pretty neat :) BD35 is off at Peter Tyson to diagnose and (hopefully) fix a problem with clicking whilst playing CDs.

Improvement?

AntiHeroUK 01-04-09 02:19 PM

Improvement? As if you have to ask. That's looking great Kemp. :)

What's the mini hoover you have sitting there?

FarFarAway 01-04-09 02:59 PM

Thanks mate - I like it :) It was quite hard work but hopefully it's worth it :D

It's a mini-Henry I got for Chrimbo. Not amazingly good hoover, but it looks cool and sweeps up the crumbs when needed :p

AntiHeroUK 01-04-09 03:02 PM

Well I must get myself a mini-Henry then :D

nunzio 02-04-09 09:48 AM

I am just waiting for Cambridge Audio to update their AV amps to support HDMI 1.3 then I will be setting up my system.

Gotta build my htpc first, any advice on a case? Just want a basic one, with vdf/lcd.

FarFarAway 02-04-09 09:57 AM

You will need your own thread for that mate, this is my log not yours ;)

nunzio 02-04-09 09:59 AM

:P will open a new thread then, but you better have a good choice for a case :P

My girlfriend and her mate both bought each other one. They are sooo funny.

mrapoc 02-04-09 07:12 PM

I love the slouchy sofa you have there

must be great to snuggle up on and watch a film

im trunking all my wires and painting etc. come summer and i will be looking at your setup for inspiration

where did u get those random pics on the wall - looks very subtle

FarFarAway 02-04-09 09:28 PM

Thanks mate. The futon is OK for comfort (Ikea ~ 100), the pillows make it pretty comfortable. We need it to be a bed quite a lot as we have people stay round here quite often and the missus insists that this is our second bedroom, not just my AV room :p Still, it's good to sit in here with the missus and will be even better when I get my BD35 back!

Trucking is all good. There's loads of choice out there but I went for the cheap option and it looks pretty decent. The good thing is that you just cut a hole in it if you want to join it or have a lead come out before the end of the trunk :)

The pics on the wall are banksy-esque prints from my local shopping mall but I believe most poster/art-esque shops have something of that ilk. They look really nice on the wall and add a nice splash of colour :)
