M.2 SSD advice needed
Hi all,
I took the plunge this week an bought myself the beginnings of a new build, the list is as follows- CPU - Intel Core i7-9700K 3.6GHz (Coffee Lake) Motherboard - Asus Maximus XI Gene Ram - G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB Kit DDR4 3200MHz RAM GPU - EVGA GeForce GTX 1080Ti SC2 PSU - Asus ROG Thor 850W 80 Plus Platinum CPU cooler - ASUS ROG Ryujin Performance AIO Case - Cooler Master MasterBox Lite 3.1 mATX Case Out of all these parts the thing that I'm stuck on is what SSD to use as the Gene motherboard has 4 mounts for M.2's I would like to use them as there would less cables to hide in the case. Any advice on my first world problem would be great. Thanks Al |
Cheapest one you can find which supports nVME and is an adequate size.

Well after spending a few hours the cheapest that's available is the Intel 660p Series 512GB M.2 SSD at £69.95
Thanks for the advice guys :) |
I got the Corsair M510 it was the best I could find that was somewhat on par with the samsung 970 I got the 1tb version of the corsair and it was about £60 cheaper than the 970 but real world use Idk how much speed is too much or too little tbh.

Have had nearly every other brand fail. |
The Samsung 970 is kind of pricey but, I literally just got done putting one in my rig. Quite fast. Im pleased with it.

It's at the point where extra speed gives very minimal benefit, actually under heavy IO my CPU is sometimes the limiting factor, possibly because not many have bothered to make parallelised IO? Could also be something entirely different like decompressing game files. |
