just stumbled across this on FB and haven't seen anything on here about it.

Corsair 460X

http://www.corsair.com/en/crystal-series-460x-rgb-compact-atx-mid-tower-case

Looks like a nice update to the 400C with tempered glass panels front and on one side. Quite pretty. There are plain and RGB controller versions.

I quite like the 400C, but what puts me off is the force of using a front mounted 240 AIO.

As it's not impossible in the top, but then you'd need some small RAM, like Corsair Vengeance LPX. Corsair Dominator Platinum's won't work for example.

Otherwise, I'd buy it.

GeForce Experience is the easiest way to update your drivers, optimize your games, and share your victories. We have rebuilt the whole thing from the ground up – to give you more of what you love. It is 3X faster while using half the memory from the previous version. Plus it has a new streamlined user interface based on suggestions from gamers.

Every element of GeForce Experience has received a makeover in this new version. We’ve simplified the Home Page with a modern user interface, made information, games and Optimal Playable Settings accessible with a single click, and accelerated every action. And behind the scenes, the GeForce Experience 3.0 is 3x faster and consumes 50% less memory than the previous version.

UPDATE: Webdush Securities analyst Michael Pachter claims that his quotes were severely misrepresented in the Daily Star interview, and has given the following statement to Tech Raptor to clarify:

"I am a PC gamer, I like PC gamers, and I merely referred to them as insular. I in no way intended to call them out as 'deplorables', and I think that the reporter overstepped the bounds of propriety in making it appear that I said such a thing with venom. In any case, I've given THOUSANDS of interviews without offending an entire group of people, and somehow this guy ended up with a "gotcha" moment. It's time to move on."

What a surprise, a Daily Star story that was completely false and misleading....

Gigabyte at it again. How can you have a 8 pin board with no VRM cooling whatsoever?

NeverBackDown
02-10-16, 06:15 PM
That leak is kinda old, and it's for OEMS. AM4 boards aren't coming to consumers for a couple months at earliest since we have no chips at all for APUs(unless they release boards prior to APUs). And you don't need vrm cooling, it just helps with OC'ing but seeing as you can't on that chipset, doesn't matter in the end

I don't know, Their latest audio stuff has been pretty solid and on par with Corsairs audio stuff and Corsairs USB/Wireless Voids in the audio department are frakkin amazing for the price you pay.

Having said that I like Razers designs but even with THX their audio stuff isn't going to get vastly better, It will probably be new software for slightly better emulated surround etc...

If you want superb audio then go the dedicated AMP/DAC route and get yourself a good high end headphone like the Sennheiser HD650.

Worlds better.

Their audio gear has been good because they don't make any of it lol.

Their best speakers were made by Boston Acoustics, who for years have been good for a U.S company (years ago if you asked a yank what an audiophile was they'd have thought you used it to file speakers) but Boston and Allison were right up there.

You watch when they switch to making it themselves. It'll be cheap tat like the rest of the stuff they sell.

I used to think that AMP/DAC's were good but now a Mixer passes a DAC.

Watch Jayz and you will find out it all he uses don't use a DAC.

A lot of Twitch streamer use a Mixer not a DAC people who i have watched who use a Mixer they have said sound quality is a lot better than a DAC.

Yes i know it comes down to a mic as well but pretty much all of them uses a XLR Mic.

Maybe the sound quality is better just for the actual mic and not just headphones ? I can;t see a top end 02 AMP/DAC or even a high high end Schiit stack being outmatched for headphone sound quality by a mixer board.

It won't be better than a DAC unless the mixer has one built in. It has a specific purpose, a mixer has its own. If you think it's better, it's psychological.
Also, XLR is only useful if it's balanced, otherwise there's not much benefit. But top end DACs and Amps have that too. It's just different gear for different uses

I do switch them quite a lot as it goes. My B&O H6 are on my head as I type this as they're really fast paced and punchy. That is pretty cool. Is it reading CPU temp or just coolant temp?

AlienALX
31-10-16, 09:35 AM
I would say coolant temp? unless it connects via USB there's no accurate way of getting the CPU temps. It's a novel idea but not such a great one. I mean, who is going to want to stare into their rig and squint to read that when gaming? You're better off having it in the front of your rig or what not.

One again though it is stunning to look at, like all of AC's gear.

exactly!

Seems like a gimmick block many will fall for. Would much prefer an all in one solution like their own Aqua aero 6XT, or similar that can monitor all block, coolant, pressure, flow, fans etc etc.

Block isnt the most attractive of blocks either.

If my blocks ever crack (that's the only thing left to worry about) then I would like a metal one. I've actually got one here that I wouldn't mind making a new top for (it has three holes but they're sloped for older fittings).

Not that its the place to discuss here, but I don't think I have ever come across news of blocks of today cracking when made of Acetal. You need some serious high PSI to do that now.

I highly doubt mine are Acetal dude. They're probably acrylic. It's not pressure I worry about, more stress from the very heavy 90' and 45' fittings I'm using.

Remember that Raijintek 240mm AIO? with the clear pump/block? they can crack.

Some people have suggested it's related to your playlist db file being vacuumed (https://sqlite.org/lang_vacuum.html) constantly, so different accounts have different results. Not sure how true it is, but sounds plausible.

Creative Assembly and Sega, have now partnered with the Wargaming's new publishing label, Wargaming Alliance to publish the F2P title Total War Arena.
About the new WG Alliance:
Wargaming Alliance is dedicated to providing third-party publishers and developers the tools, resources and platform to enter the highly competitive free-to-play gaming market along with access to Wargaming’s substantial subscriber base of over 100 million gamers.
Link to more info (https://forums.totalwar.com/discussion/187179/wargaming-alliance-to-publish-total-war-arena/p1)
I see this as either a great and strong partnership or a partnership that will ruin the Arena title(compared to the closed alpha I played). On the positive side, WG can add more resources like strong network backends and proven working concepts into the game as well as supporting/promoting it with a massive player base.
On the other hand, since they are removing it from Steam and moving to a client based app, if they have it region locked, this will be a huge bane for TW. TW is an RTS/TBS game and therefore is less popular than MMOs/FPS/etc so the player base is small currently. Region lock would only hurt them further, until a strong/consistent player base can be had, region lock shouldn't be an option.

Daily reminder that Android is great until you realize that its incredibly easy to do malicious stuff with.

Security researchers have uncovered a secret backdoor in Android phones that sends almost all personally identifiable information to servers based in China.

The firmware is managed by Shanghai Adups Technology, and according to the company, is contained on over 700 million phones worldwide, including phones available in the United States.

Adups says that the firmware provides companies with data for customer support, but an analysis by Kryptowire revealed that the software sends the full bodies of text messages, contact lists, call history with full telephone numbers, and unique device identifiers including the International Mobile Subscriber Identity and the International Mobile Station Equipment Identity.

Clearly lacks tessellation on muddy terrain path - see bottom left highlighted area

Terrain quality/decoration lowered, notice missing foliage and plants - see top left highlight above the muddy path

HBAO/shadow resolution or shadow-draw distance lowered, notice cluster of plants - see middle highlight above weapon

If it were £30 I would take that chance, but at £44 on a key site this is just too rich for me man.

I've been playing Borderlands for my past 20 hours or so of gaming. One of the DLC in the first game is so huge it's crazy. Thought we'd be done by now but it seems we have an awful long way to go (and a bugger called Crawmerax to splat).

The good thing is it's not aged much. Cell shading always looks the same, so even though the game is eons old now it still looks every bit as good as it did when it launched :)

Its not just PC. PS4/PS Pro players have been complaining.

DICE have since come out:
Producer David Sirland, went on to say that there were "tweaks made to texture pools on all levels" which could "result in a lower res version getting loaded." He also went on to say that these 'tweaks' could improve missing weapons and spawn issues.

FPS issues people have been having on PC seem to stem from the latest Nvidia drivers.

Even at 1% gain intel is still going to sell them, To me it doesn't look like intel is really worry about Zen

Maybe they are holding back intentionally in order to produce a new SKU which is XX% more than what Zen will offer. If they bump up gains now, it gives AMD a target to aim for with their own release.

Yes, Intel has no reason to release a cpu that's a 10% improvement atm, they're waiting for Zen and they will go from there.

Even though their next big launch is Skylake-E and we can already pretty much predict the outcome?

They don't even really care about the desktop market any more and haven't for years. All they care about is being a firm player in the mobile market, because that is where the lion's share of the market is now.

Well, that and the server market which is what AMD will probably see as the most important, given they've been completely out of it for years.

This video talks about an article by Fudzilla (here (http://fudzilla.com/news/graphics/42422-vega-architecture-will-bring-multiple-cards)) saying that Vega is going to cater to the lower end alongside the higher-end. I personally did not expect this as it would uproot their budding Polaris range, but maybe it's going to be necessary if AMD want to regain their fair share of the GPU consumer market.

Vega will include GDDR5 (and possibly GDDR5X) as well as HBM2, meaning the main issue with the Fury lineup—price—could be eliminated. We could see a Vega 1070 and 1080 competitor with GDDR5(X) that costs significantly less. Then there would be HBM2 variants that would be even more powerful and advanced, but considerably more expensive.

Hope I'm wrong though as we severely need competition at the high end.

What are you basing that doubt on exactly? Beating a 1080 should not be that hard. In DX12 a Fury X can match a 1070.

290X ended up being a really good card when done right. As NBD said, the MSI Lightning version has been a perennial favourite for three years. At launch the 780ti usually topped the 290X—though it was a lot more expensive. But looking at Gamers Nexus recent 780ti retest, the 780ti is only slightly more powerful than a 1050ti in new games. The 290X absolutely destroys it. This is largely down to nVidia and their drivers, but it shows how long the 290X has lasted.

True that but most games and most game devs are still using DX11 and that is what will win peoples money as AMD do fall behind in that area.

In 1080P DX11 on Battlefield 1 Ultra settings a 1070 is about 39FPS faster on average and 33FPS faster at 1440P Ultra settings, Those are the numbers people will look at and make a buying decision from.

Kinda long, but 100% bang on. AMD will never ever win the GPU war unless Nvidia got nuked or something lol.

Just going back to this for a second. I have a feeling that the gap is so wide because the Fury is probably using Texture Cache for extra VRAM. As I discovered the other week it works very well. Sadly I also discovered that when it happens your FPS tank as it is actually using the hard drive. That is probably why the max FPS are reasonably good compared to the 1070, yet the minimums are horrible.

To be fair to AMD at least it works and doesn't crash your PC or reboot on you. There's always a down side though...

Having said that I have noticed that the very latest games are reasonably fine on the Fury X. I have maxed out JC3 with FXAA and the FPS are very good. I do get dips and the occasional stutter, but I got the exact same on my Titan X so it's more the game itself.

Hmm, yeah, you're right. But it's not all doom and gloom. Black Ops III and Rainbow Six Siege show the Fury X beating or only slightly falling behind a 1070. These are very, very popular games.

https://tpucdn.com/reviews/Zotac/GeForce_GTX_1080_Amp_Extreme/images/codbo3_2560_1440.png

https://tpucdn.com/reviews/Zotac/GeForce_GTX_1080_Amp_Extreme/images/r6siege_2560_1440.png

Then you have Guru3D marking the Fury X only 3 FPS behind the 1070 at 1440p in The Division (at 4k it's parity). With DX12 coming that will shift to favouring AMD. That's three massive games showing the Fury X being competitive. And of course BF1 in DX12 shows parity as well or greater FPS than the 1070 and DX12 mode in BF1 is popular—though not as popular.

The biggest games that show the Fury X lagging are the games that always showed favour to nVidia: Fallout 4, Arma 3, GTA V, and The Witcher 3. Overwatch is really not worth mentioning because on AMD hardware you can still hit 144 FPS. It's really a moot point in this discussion—but it does obviously favour nVidia and that will persuade certain gamers.

According to the Steam survey, Total War Warhammer is also very popular. Fury X matches a 1070. Dark Souls III is still very popular and shows no extreme favouritism to nVidia. Battlefront prefers AMD.

In general I don't think it's all doom and gloom like some people (not you) are suggesting. Yeah, the biggest games that favour AMD (Gear of War 4, Deus Ex, Hitman, Ashes) are not on the Steam stats bar or are very low—either because they aren't available on Steam or because they're not popular enough—but all we need is a massive game like Battlefront 2 to succeed as much as BF1 and only be available in DX12 mode and that will be the major turning point.

Cocaine is really bad for the heart. Puts years on it. Billy Mays died under similar circumstances.

Not sure if the damage was done when George was younger, or he kept on as he was older. Some have described him as a tortured soul, meaning maybe he was snorting powder in his older age.

Yeah, it's all in the wording. Until we see reviews it's likely to not be true. I mean, 3.1Ghz base on an engineering sample to 5Ghz on air is a huge jump. If it's true why wouldn't AMD simply release the chip at something like 4Ghz if 5Ghz was so manageable. They even have a decent stock cooler to keep up with it.

There is reason to be hopeful though. Firstly AMD have spent ages playing with it and refining it. It's not like they released it as soon as Jim had left, they've spent about three years on it since so far !

Secondly they are binning to TDP and power use. That is very strict.. It all depends on what temps the chip runs at. That would be a good indicator of whether it was a turkey or not tbh. They haven't shown anything though...

It's got to be at least as good as a 5960x... I think..... :D

I'm still keen on their DG87. It's just I can't justify the price. It's not bad but since I need to pay shipping on that to Norway, and then the 36% tax (also including shipping) to get it in here. I might as well just go and get an LDV8.

Well if you can't justify the price of the EVGA case then you can't justify the price on that new Phanteks case then.

I didn't think the DG-87 wasn't overpriced here, If you want to talked about an way over priced case now is the Corsair 900D over 3 year old case at it's still $470.00 here.

AMD have been using the scalability and flexibility terms for a long while now. They have a unique position in the industry as the only high end SoC designer and have the history to back it up. So to further increase there lead and just be that much better, it forces others to forget this position/market because AMD is so far ahead(which means more money they can charge for). This is being helpful to them as the HT 2.0 basically allows an immense amount of design choices for any company(like consoles) to make a chip suited for them at a cheaper cost along with faster development time of the chip.

How they translate this for PC and HPC is pretty impressive from the little we know of in those articles. Again the flexibility, allows them to take there own CPUs and GPUS and similar to how NVLink works, allow massive bandwidth to be used. It's not entirely the same, but increased bandwidth is always welcome in HPC. I'm excited for this. AMD finally seem to be pulling together there CPU and GPU expertise together.

I don't know man.. I liked the DG87 a lot and then I watched a video on it. It just seemed so full of plastic. There's nothing particularly wrong with plastic but it just didn't seem to have the look. And it was kinda weird. Like you would have to have it horizontally across the back of a desk to appreciate it. Which of course would not work unless you have two desks and one would need to be empty.

I agree. However in my case, (hurr hurr), I would have had this on my left side against the wall so it would be quite convenient in that respect.

I did the same, the more I thought about it, the more I decided its not for me after seeing a video. I have merged a corsair 540 air, into my IKEA stand so I have 2x 480 rads cooling the case. Quite happy with the result too. I just need to tweak and tidy it up. You could say the IKEA stand is my cooling pedestal, and the case has just air fans.

If you have a Netgear router you may want to see if there is a firmware update for it.

There has been a new security flaw found.

Researchers are warning of a serious security hole that can be exploited to hijack potentially hundreds of thousands of Netgear routers.

The programming blunder allows an attacker with access to the router to harvest the administrator access password. A victim could visit a malicious webpage that uses JavaScript to exploit the vulnerability in the router firmware to take over the boxes, knock them offline, change their DNS settings to redirect browsers to malware-injecting websites, and so on. Malware already on the local network can also target the security flaw.

The more new games an employee sells, the more used games they’ll have to sell to make up for it. In other words, according to salespeople speaking to Kotaku and elsewhere on the internet, GameStop is incentivizing employees to stop people from buying new games and hardware. GameStop staff say the company has threatened to fire people who don’t hit these quotas, which is leading to all sorts of scuzzy tactics.

The UK leaving the EU they need to get some monies in some how

It won't be an earner for the EU, just levels the playing field and forces Valve to stop using anti-competitive policies.

Remember that money that Intel owes AMD for their Anti-competitive behaviour way back when? Big company lawyers will make sure that any fines etc will be delayed so long that they are effectively worthless.

Australia's actions forced Steam to implement a proper refund policy, so these legal battles/investigations do help consumers in the end.

Aye basically Asus have been providing their retailers with set prices. So they can not sell the stuff any cheaper without a nod from Asus. This means they can't compete, and all Asus products are usually more expensive than any other brand and just as expensive wherever you go.

It finally explains to me why a stickered Nvidia GPU (so a stock card) always costs £40+ more from Asus.

It's price fixing. Note usually when you see a review you will see it say MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price) or RRP (recommended retail price)? that is because the manu are only allowed to suggest to the retailer what it should sell for. Not set the price themselves.

And yeah WYP - it's usually cheaper to pay the fines than the suit itself. I remember years ago a mate of mine explained to me how Microsoft used to blatantly break the law with Windows. They would get fined every month and have to pay $XXXX but the fines were cheaper than actually conforming with the lawsuit so they would just pay the fines as there was more money in it for them by breaking rules.

BS really. We need laws that basically forbid some one from selling their stuff in a certain place unless they conform to the rules.

Exactly. I may be docile when it comes to politics or feminism (urrrk) or other social issues, but I'm not docile in matters that really affect me and mean a great deal to me and mine. You could call that selfish, but there's only so much one man in front of a computer screen with a diagnosed mental illness can do. So many don't factor in our limitations. Very interesting, it makes a lot of sense to protect their IP, though it remains to be seen whether or not this is basic patent trolling.

If AMD lose, then Samsung and others won't need to license that tech anymore, but if they win these companies will need to make a licensing agreement with AMD and pay for their infringement.

Strange move from AMD, especially when they want monitor makers to adopt their freesync standard.

They are suing mostly for the ARM chips. IDK if you read the article, but suing the licensee aka ARM, doesn't work. As it didn't for work for Nvidia against Samsung, so they are trying the manufature side of things. Better possibility of winning. It also seems they can use Samsungs pockets to help win the case, as Samsung is technically the ONLY company with legal rights to use AMD IP. It would be a power move for Samsung to gain more Foundry control and allow AMD to gain more money.
AMD doesn't go to court often. Rarely do they. I don't think it's Patent trolling.

Now that is very, very clever indeed !

Looks like they have really done their homework on Zen.

Don't be too excited. It's a crap ton of work to do if they try this. Don't know if they have the resources to keep up the updates.

Considering win 7 is a done deal to an extent and probably have very few major updates if any these days, chances are once they get those drivers working unless M$ go out of their way to mess it up, they'd be minor tweaks on the most part

Yes, but I was thinking more along the lines of chipset updates and new CPUs using new instruction sets, etc.

i'd think once the most part of the driver base is done updates wouldn't be a big issue, Though this is speculation on my part obviously

Pretty much all the AM4 motherboards, at least launch ones, have been listed and pictured on VideoCardz. ASRock have another nice looking X370 board and MSI have their Carbon version ready for Ryzen as well as the Titanium. Pretty much all of them look excellent and have colour-neutral designs.

Doesn't have the Crosshair on that list. I've seen leaked pictures of it though. Has 16 rear IO USB inputs. 1 being Type C

It is mentioned on the site already and can be found, but no, it's not listed in that particular article.
