Need For Speed has been delayed for the PC until spring 2016...
Part of the conversation includes hearing from our PC community that an unlocked frame rate in Need for Speed is a massive priority for you, and we fully agree. To deliver this, we’ve made the decision to move the PC release date to Spring 2016. Our PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release dates will remain the same, starting November 3, 2015 in North America and November 5 worldwide.

This decision on PC gives us the necessary development time to increase the visuals that we can deliver on PC. We will also include content updates that will have been released on console up to that time, making them available to all PC players from day one.
so they need a few extra months for unlocked framerate and better visuals. Its a shame as I was really looking forward to it.

Massive pain. But at least they are taking this response seriously because unlocking a frame rate when not intended comes with some serious issues.

Wasn't it the last N4S that went twice as fast when you removed the 30fps framerate cap?

I do have a bit of faith in them this time though. The game has had a lot of love put into it and I don't think they'd risk throwing it away with a sloppy port.

STAR WARS THEME PARKS ANNOUNCED!
Work on the two Star Wars theme parks in California and Florida is due to begin in 2016, Disney bosses have announced.
The areas will be the largest single-themed expansions in the company's history, according to Thomas Staggs, chief operating officer of Walt Disney Co.
The five-hectare parks will form part of the existing Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida.
Fans of the sci-fi film franchise will be able to live out their Star Wars dreams as they fly the Millennium Falcon, visit a Star Wars cantina, and meet characters from the movies in the "immersive experience".
Disney chairman and chief executive Robert Iger has not revealed when the parks will be ready to open, but insists the new collaboration between Disney Parks and Star Wars will be "jaw-dropping".
He adds, "These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance."
The next installment of the sci-fi saga, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, starring Harrison Ford, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac, is due for release on 18 December.

If only they would open a theme park in the country where most of the star wars films were made lol.

Yup. If your physics system relies on there only being 33ms between frames then it's going to simulate twice as fast. Normally you would separate the physics from the rendering so it wouldn't do this but I guess they really weren't counting on people to remove the frame lock

Turns out its the same company (Ghost games) who will be handling the port. Here's hoping that they've learnt their lesson.

Last month, Microsoft has disabled 2 of the old style DRMs, and subsequently the games that use them, on Windows 10. Games that use Securom and Safedisc no longer work on Windows 10 without a patch of some sort to remove the reliance on these draconian DRMs. This decision was made by Microsoft in response to security concerns, but as a side effect rendered hundreds of old games unplayable on the new operating system without players installing no-CD cracks or re-buying the games via modern digital distribution services which don't use the now-abandoned DRM. Now Microsoft have released a security patch (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3086255) that also removes support for the Safedisc DRM from Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. The description for update '3086255' says that it "addresses a defense-in-depth update for the secdrv.sys driver, a third-party driver." It then explains how it addresses that problem: "The update turns off the service for the secdrv.sys driver. This may affect the ability to run some older games."

FYI, Microsoft has provided a workaround. Those interested in running such games will have to either temporarily turn on the service for the secdrv.sys driver by running certain commands, or by editing the registry.

AMD was rumored to have gone to TSMC because of the yield and defect issues GF was having on 14nm. However WCCF had an interview with Jason Gorss, Senior Manager, Corporate and Technology Communications at Globalfoundries which provided the details below.

[paraphrased quote] Globalfoundries 14nmLPP/LPE is ahead of schedule and already exceeding plans for yields and defect desnity. 14nmLPE variants are the early market version of the LPP for those wanting to adopt the node sooner. LPE is the lower power version of the design. The LPP is the 2nd gen of LPE and is even more power efficient as well as more powerful. The LPE variants are already undergoing volume production, meeting yield targets on lead customer products. LPP is set for qualification sometime this year with volume ramp beginning next year.

So the rumors for AMD going to TSMC because of issues are more than likely false as GF is ahead. AMD has gone to GF before for CPUs and APUs and typically go to TSMC for GPUs. I suspect Zen and any other new APUs will end up going to GF so they can release products sooner rather than later as they are desperately in need of revenue. It will be interesting to see if AMD goes to GF for GPUs as well since TSMC has had many issues with 16nm. I fully suspect this will be the first time AMD has gone to 1 single fab maker to make all there products for next years product portfolio. Hopefully they are able to get the LPP version for there main products Zen and Arctic Islands.

On the other hand Nvidia are probably jumping to GF as TSMC is only just getting around to 16nm after many delays. If they do stay on TSMC amd get on 16nm, AMD have a possible node lead and may give them advantages in more ways than one. If Nvidia go to GF, I really hope they can cope with all that demand as AMD and Nvidia are only fractions of there customers but having both with all those chips will really stress supply.

Source: http://wccftech.com/globalfoundries-14nm-finfet-amd-zen-2016/
I realize WCCF isn't the most reliable source, however with an exclusive interview with GF, it's hard to discredit the article.

Microsoft has bought Havok, the creators behind the famously popular Havok Physics Engine from Intel. For those who don't know, Havok has been in use for over 600 game titles such as Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Destiny, Dark Souls, The Elder Scrolls and Microsoft's own Halo. No financial details have been released as of yet but I wouldn't expect anything over $100M. Since the acquisition has taken place, many people were asking how MS would handle the licensing Havok/Intel have done in the past for studios who wanted to use it.

Here is what MS have said about licensing and reasons behind there purchase.
We will continue to license Havok’s technology to the broad AAA games industry. This also means that we will continue to license Havok’s technology to run across various game consoles including Sony and Nintendo.

We believe that Havok is a fantastic addition to Microsoft’s existing tools and platform components for developers, including DirectX 12, Visual Studio, and Microsoft Azure. Microsoft’s acquisition of Havok continues our tradition of empowering developers by providing them with the tools to unleash their creativity to the world. We will continue to innovate for the benefit of development partners. Part of this innovation will include building the most complete cloud service, which we’ve just started to show through games like Crackdown 3.

I'm glad they are allowing Havok to still license there tech as Havok is quite a powerful physics engine. However I'm curious to know if the cost has now risen to license it since MS is the new owner. I'm also curious because now that they own it, all there future Exclusives or PC games will probably be getting to use it for free which would help lower the cost of development and potentially even letting some studios license it for free so they can make deals too use MS Azure cloud software to aid in processing which could lower cost of entry and get more people to make more games which would only benefit everyone.

DARPA are doing some amazing things with liquid cooling -

Winter is coming (to microchips)! Using microfluidic passages cut directly into the backsides of production field-programmable gate array devices, researchers at Georgia Tech are putting liquid cooling right where it’s needed the most – a few hundred microns away from where the transistors are operating. Combined with connection technology that operates through structures in the cooling passages, the new technologies could allow development of denser and more powerful integrated electronic systems that would no longer require heat sinks or cooling fans on top of the integrated circuits. The work is funded by DARPA's ICECool program. For more information visit: http://www.ece.gatech.edu/media/news/release.php?nid=455491

That's not the issue or the idea, it's about competition. There is very little point just adding another card to the line up to compete with the R9 380 when the 4GB 960 does the job just fine.

AMD suffer another blow as they loose another high level member of staff.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/10/14/phil_rogers_amd_nvidia/

Rogers left AMD this month to become Nvidia's compute server architect in Austin, Texas. He was with graphics chip biz ATI from October 1994 to 2006, when the company was gobbled up by AMD. At AMD, Rogers oversaw system architecture and performance.

Hopefully this doesn't have a negative impact on AMD but since they are also laying off another 500 members of staff, it looks like AMD could be feeling the squeeze abit.

Nvidia drivers will soon only be available through GeForce Experience

Soon, you won't be able to get Game Ready drivers for your GeForce graphics card unless you hand your email address over to Nvidia.
Nvidia’s pushing out a new beta version of its slick GeForce Experience software Thursday, building atop the awesome update from last month that lets you play local co-op games with your faraway friends—even if they don’t have gaming machines.

The update adds the ability to broadcast your games to both Twitch and YouTube Gaming at a buttery-smooth 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution. You can now stream games from your GeForce-equipped PC to an Nvidia Shield device at up to 60 fps at 4K resolution, and that’s with 5.1-channel surround sound, too. It’s all wonderful stuff, pushing Nvidia’s class-leading GeForce Experience software even further out in front of the competition, especially if you’re all-in on Nvidia’s ecosystem.

But what’s coming today isn’t the real news, even if it’s welcome news. The real news is what’s coming in December—or rather, what’s not coming after December.

Of drivers and single-source destinations
One of the key weapons in Nvidia’s arsenal against AMD is its deluge of Game Ready drivers. Virtually every major PC game release in the past two years has been accompanied by a day one, WHQL-certified Game Ready driver from Nvidia, designed to make the latest and greatest games run wonderfully on GeForce graphics cards. They’re great!

Sometime in mid-December, however, you’ll be able to install Game Ready drivers only via GeForce Experience—and even then only after you’ve registered a verified email address with Nvidia. The drivers you can grab on GeForce.com or via Windows Update will be limited to quarterly releases for bug fixes, new features, security updates and so on.

Locking performance-enhancing drivers that have always been freely available behind a registration wall chafes—hard—but Nvidia says the change will reduce headaches for both casual and hardcore gamers, as well as continue to push GeForce Experience as a go-to PC gaming solution.

“We kind of have two camps in terms of gamers,” Nvidia’s Sean Pelletier said in a group call with journalists. “On one hand you have the gamer that’s just casually playing things here and there, using their system for daily use and gaming on the side. They don’t want to be inundated with these [Game Ready] drivers…

“On the other side of the equation you have enthusiast gamers, who get excited about preloading a game, who want to play a game the day it comes out with all the bells and whistles,” Pelletier continued. “That’s obviously the demographic we’re looking at for Game Ready drivers. We’re targeting GFE as a single-source destination for those gamers.”
GeForce Experience has long functioned as a control hub of sorts for Nvidia users, offering one-click game optimization, easy driver downloads, the impressive Shadowplay video capture tool, the ability to stream PC games to Shield devices, and more. It’s great!—just like Nvidia’s Game Ready drivers. But while Nvidia reps tried to downplay the upcoming registration requirement by pointing out that “mid- to high-90 percent” of Nvidia owners already apply updates via GeForce Experience, the fact stands that currently, you can bask in all those value-adding features—and drivers—without ever having to register with Nvidia or officially log into GFE.

Nvidia plans to add more functionality to GFE in its quest to make the software a “single-source destination” for PC gamers, however. PC gaming news will make its way into GeForce Experience, as well as hardware giveaways and early access to games. It’s easy to envision Nvidia leveraging GeForce Experience to pass out codes for beta access to games, rather than relying on website-based giveaways as it did with the recent Rainbow Six Siege beta. One day, the free games that Nvidia bundles with its cards could even conceivably be delivered via GFE, similar to how Nvidia offered free Witcher 3 copies to Titan X owners earlier this year. Game-based goodies like that would basically require you to log in to register, anyway—as they have in the past.

But locking Game Ready drivers away unless you hand over your email address to Nvidia just feels icky—like an overreach that benefits Nvidia more than actual gamers. Alas, most gamers will likely wind up handing over the info, even if they grumble. The allure of Nvidia’s delicious Game Ready drivers is just too great, and once you’ve already invested in a Green Team graphics card, you’re likely to stick with it for a few years before upgrading. You can’t leave performance on the table for that long.

And it certainly feels like Nvidia knows it.

However after learning a few things about the game, such as 20 unit army's as a max now(meaning can't reinforce), I'm not to sure about it. This changes a whole dynamic to the core gameplay that's been around for years and it's a step in the wrong direction.

I think it's the last one. It shows a computer being hacked old skool FO3. Looks like the player is in a vault (as there are mutants around) but can't be sure.

I'm not going to look at it again tbh as has been mentioned I don't want to ruin my experience.

I had a look for about 20 seconds, I agree some of the textures look a little washed out, hopefully some AA+AF will make them pop a bit more, although the models of the Super Mutant for example look waaaay better, i'm also really digging on the loot system, mega improvement!

It appears that Blizzard Entertainment has big plans for its old games. As spotted by NeoGAF, the company has created a new "Classic Games" division and has started hiring for it.

An open position for a senior software engineer specifically mentions StarCraft (1998), Warcraft III (2002), and Diablo II (2000) as games that Blizzard is looking to "restore to glory."

Blizzard has provided the following statement to GameSpot on the matter.

"We need engineers to help maintain our legacy games. We have a history of maintaining our games for many years. Our earlier games are still played and enjoyed today, so we want to continue to maintain them for those communities."

AMD and GlobalFoundaries today announced the first successful samples of 14nm FinFET chips using the higher powered LPP compared to the previous 14nm LPE varient which is about 10% slower than the newer LPP design. It's not been confirmed if this is a CPU/APU/GPU chip but AMD has disclosed that they have taped out many 14nmLPP design to GloFo.

My impression: Considering AMDs FAB history, GloFo is generally there go to CPU/APU for chips and TSMC is generally for there GPUs; however, also considering AMD have stated that Zen won't be until Q4 2016/Q1 2017 it's far more likely to be an APU/GPU. Nothing afaik for APUs is confirmed for a Q2 2016 launch whereas the GPUs are rumored for a late Q2/Early Q3 iirc. With GloFo entering mass production early next year it could be very well a GPU launch. I wouldn't be surprsied if it was consdering they need to catch up in sales to Nvidia and if Nvidia go down the TSMC route like rumored, they will go 16nm. The 14nm node should prove a huge marketing advantage and more than likely a performance advantage as well. I think the only thing holding back a next gen GPU from AMD, is when HBM2 becomes available.

So concluding, I think it's a very likely GPU but at worst is an APU that they are being tight lipped about. Unless they are lieing about Zen and it indeed comes out middle of next year. Which would be quite awesome since the hype around it is quite high.

There's going to be a riot if this is true.

It's partially true. Some pre orders were not successful for whatever reason but there really shouldn't be any need to worry.

When I first pre ordered the game my debit card at the time was set to expire before the game came out. I asked what would happen if I accidentally forgot to update it and it bounced and they promised me that they would do everything they could with me to secure the order and get it paid for.

So basically even if the payment bounced my Pip Boy edition would remain reserved until I could sort out payment (they said they would phone me).

Also, in another news article they have stated that they would spend the weekend phoning every one who had an issue and try their best to get it sorted.

Me? mine went fine. On Sunday afternoon I got an email stating that my order had been processed and then about five minutes later the cash was gone from my bank balance and I received an email on Sunday evening confirming it was shipped.

The main issue I had with this was that Game's website collapsed when they announced the Pip Boy back in June, so it really was survival of the fittest to get one pre ordered. I had to wait on the phone for nearly three hours before getting through, and by then all of the PS4 versions were gone. Thankfully there was still some meat on the PC bone so I got in nice and early.

All being well I will have mine tomorrow via DPD.

Silly question but what is so good about the Pip Boy

I can't answer that completely truthfully dude because the thing is no one knows until tomorrow.

If you check out the unboxing videos you will see that it links with a phone and right now displays images of Vault Boy in different poses.

What I do know, having installed the Pip Boy app on my phone is that it basically turns your phone into the game's actual Pip Boy. However, as I said, it looks like the phone can connect specifically to the Pip Boy itself (via Blue Tooth I guess?) and interact with your phone.

So basically there will be loads of people wearing this thing during gaming sessions.

The problem is it looks far bulkier than I thought it would and I would feel like a bit of a pillock sitting there with it on so no doubt mine will be for display only.

That bit doesn't interests me at all i don't use apps on my phone i know that sounds strange to most people, I can't see the point in playing a game or whatever on a 5 or 6in screen to me it's way to small.

I would rather just own the game and nothing else comes with it when i look at this kinda stuff all i can think off it's pointless cr*p.

I've got a mate playing it and apparently he reckons the FPS tanks are caused by God Rays, the only Gameworks feature. He said he can't tell the difference between ultra and low, apart from going from 50 to 100 FPS.

So it seems we have discovered the rat in the game, and once again it's Nvidia Failworkz.

You know with how "successful" I guess you can call Gameworks has been lately(that is getting all the AAA games to use it) you'd figure they would have fixed all the huge performance impacts it has since it's been pretty consistently hurting performance at least from there side? I'm sure Bethesda will release a post launch patch like Ubisoft always does for there games.. wouldn't be surprised if it was a 10GB patch to fix it:p
Although then again mods will probably fix this game right up as they have done with Skyrim.

I think Witcher 3 was probably the only gameworks title that came out where performance wasn't impacted too much. Was still achievable to maintain a fairly high fps, however 1 out of the dozen games isn't a really good track record. Don't know if it's Nvidia's software or just devs not optimizing as much as they could to make the impacts less. I guess that could be a reason why Witcher 3 was delayed? To further optimize the Gameoworks stuff?

Nvidia don't care about whether the game works or not. All they care about is getting their branding on it and selling more GPUs.

They saw TressFX (that actually worked) and saw a market in it.

Shipments of PC parts to drop in 2016

I've got a mate who used to work for Asus in Taiwan. Now he is a journalist and works closely with many companies. He posted this a couple of days back, figured I would post it here.

Asustek, Gigabyte motherboard shipments to drop 10% in 2015
DIGITIMES [Monday 14 December 2015]
With demand for PC remaining weak, Asustek Computer and Gigabyte Technology are both expected to see their brand motherboard shipments drop 10% on year, each shipping around 17 million units in 2015, while other small players will see much worse declines in the year, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), Micro-Star International (MSI) and Biostar are seeing losses from their motherboard businesses, while China-based Onda reportedly will gradually phase out from the industry in 2016. The sources believe the global motherboard shipments will drop another 10% on year in 2016, forcing more motherboard players to quit.

Asustek and Gigabyte each shipped about 8.5-9 million motherboards in the first half thanks to their strong marketing and price cut promotions. However, Intel's releases of its new Skylake processors did not boost consumers' demand as expected and the two players only shipped less than five million motherboards in the third quarter. Since their shipments are unlikely to dramatic sequential growths in the fourth quarter, their annual shipments are only expected to reach between 17-17.5 million units each.

ECS also turned its focus away from its own-brand motherboard business. China-based motherboard player Onda, which ships about one million motherboards a year mostly to the mid-range and entry-level segments, is also rumored to quit the market.

And what he says about it.

> No word on ASRock, but I suspect dropping more than MSI as - if their marketing is anything to go by - it has collapsed in the last 18 months. Will be loss making also.
> MSI were at 6M a couple of years ago, about the same as ECS so will also be loss making. And despite their very successful Gaming branding it seems it's not helping their sales ultimately. Their gaming site is evidently a company in full pivot to notebooks though - their entire HQ building is now MSI Gaming branded. It'll be a slow burn out for them in MB in favour of Graphics and NB.
> No more ECS 'L33T' stuff. Mini PCs and OEM only I guess. Their company is in a bad way, I heard they had to sell their fancy HQ in a prime area of Taipei in the last few years (not sure if true).
> Biostar will be doing an Abit/DFI very soon. I'm surprised they lasted this long tbh.
> It'll be a two-company market in 3-5 years as Gigabyte/ASUS vacuum up what's left.

Sounds like MSI are really struggling. I can understand now why they didn't bother to release the 780ti Lightning and why they took so long with the 980ti Lightning.

It seems we are less easily fooled about "gaming" products than we were a couple of years ago. This is quite evident for me because I have now pretty much gotten rid of all of my gaming stuff and have bought regular office equipment. Chairs, headset and so on.

Half of the problem for me is that gaming products are usually far too expensive for the actual quality of the product being offered. IE, you think by spending £80 on a gaming mouse that you are buying a very solid peripheral that will last you for years. Of course, though, there is a caveat. All that the extra £50 has gained you is the fact that it has an LED or two on it, not that it is in any way, shape or form more substantial.

And then you have the utterly cringe worthy products like the MSI GODLIKE !. For me this board has been defaced and completely ruined by the fact they called it GODLIKE. Of all of the things that should ever be used by that name a god damned motherboard is not one of them.

It's got to be one of the most embarrassing products I have ever seen.

I'm not too worried about Asrock. They have carved out a name of themselves by making boards that actual people can actually afford. So "gaming" moniker aside I think Asrock will still hang around just making nice cheap products that people can afford.

Asus IMO have just gotten better and better. However, like Asrock Asus do cater to the low end and IMO that is where the sales are going to be.

Sounds like MSI are really struggling. I can understand now why they didn't bother to release the 780ti Lightning and why they took so long with the 980ti Lightning.

That's totally unrelated to their financial position with respect to motherboards. The 780Ti Lightning was abandoned when nVidia said the voltage would have to be locked to avoid it outperforming their higher priced Titan at the time. All of the development work and investment had already been made (largely from the 780) and it was basically ready to roll out. The 980Ti was genuinely just delayed in the final stages, probably as they spent two months deciding whether to ship it in yellow or silver.

As a whole (beyond MB's) I think the GAMING brand is doing well for them, while enthusiasts may be wise to what it really is in most cases the market still loves it. Just like black and red, it sells numbers. I'm sure now ASUS have started to react to that trend with the latest ROG line popularity will decline.

jimma47

I'm not overly surprised. The Skylake motherboards only sell to accompany the CPUS which were overpriced and had low availability. Everyone knew they were coming out so probably held off upgrading until they were benched and available at more reasonable prices. Same with GPUs - we'll see a decline as more people wait for Pascal.

This is only part of the issue - a lot of people now use tablets and mobiles for general email, internet and social media so there's less of a demand for a 'family pc'. Most people have notebooks and we're shifting away to more portable and wireless solutions.

Nucs, AIOs and the like are all eating up market share and the consoles and mac fans don't have any market for motherboard upgrades.

I'd say the rationalization and decline of some manufacturers just mirrors what's happening in every industry. Think of the automotive industry. All global cars just being re-badged for local markets. Mazda/Volvo/Ford sharing floorplans. VAG, GM/Opel/Vauxhaul/Holden the same. Everyone is doing it.

So as it would seem Steam has dropped the ball and opened the wrong Valve  jokes aside having your profile compromised is no laughing matter neither is sharing your account and credit card details with total strangers.

This was sadly the case with Steam on the busiest day of the year, users found themselves browsing the store to find they were in fact looking at a complete strangers account which included full libraries, account details and even credit card details..

A code update implemented on the 25th of December which was responsible for the crossed lines or "leaky Valve" is believed to be the culprit causing profile page caching issues, this has since been fixed and Steam is now back up and running after a short down time.

All this happened rather fast and social media exploded with many concerned angry users (rightly so) voicing their opinions, it brings many questions to the table including, why tweak code during the busiest sales period for Steam especially on Christmas day of all days, why wasn't the plug pulled the moment it was obvious something was wrong, why didn't Valve make a public announcement on social media?

My advice to all Steam users is to get your passwords changed and keep an eye on your bank accounts, if you see any irregularities report them immediately to the appropriate authorities.

Many thanks to Forum User Barnsley for originally bringing this to our attention & TheRegister.

Thanks!

To add some more detail that has appeared

The details displayed were read only (as far as people have been able to obtain). This means that while people could see certain bits of your card details/billing addresses etc they could not actually change it.

If you were logged in but did not visit the steam store then you should be ok as the caching layer was only to do with the store, not the community/user side. Ascessing your payment details would involve the store too.

In terms of what exactly was displayed, it is the exact same as it would be if you were to access it normally. So that is the last 4 details of your debit/credit card, potentially your billing address, your email and various bits to do with steam wallet.

hard to put any stock on this, it is just speculation afterall, not from anything involved with HTC or valve.

While It can be more expensive, especially since it has a superior tracking system, I don't think it would be that expensive, otherwise HTC will have some trouble selling it.

Yeah I haven't witnessed the upgrade work successfully and it seems to be a challenge to get it running correctly even after a clean install. My friend had huge issues with wireless adapter compatibility and when he eventually found a working solution it was killed every time a secondary display was connected. There are quite a few products for which drivers just don't exist, i've got a mouse which is completely useless with 10 but no issues with 7/8/8.1. I had monumentally stupid problems over the weekend with 10 deciding to automatically install nVidia graphics drivers constantly and repetitively, weirdly the ones it chose were nearly 10 months old.

Only does it after the 1151 upgrade or whatever version it is on now, checked all the bios settings, driver settings etc but cannot figure it out.

One thing I have not tried yet is adding another ethernet card in and turning off the onboard killer nic, which I am not to happy with hopefully when I upgrade my cpu and motherboard, I will be able to find a board that doesn't use the garbage killer nic's.

I've upgraded 2 laptops and my desktop, the only issue i had was a missing touchpad driver. I've been quite surprised by how well it's been working. However, this forceful upgrade path is starting to be a joke.

I have friends and family who aren't tech savvy and they are confused when this pops up and don't know if it it's a virus or legit, secondly if they did upgrade and had problems they'd be blocked from doing work on it with no support other than me, and it's not always viable for me to visit them.. Then there's the people who I work with that are tech savvy but they have such a complicated Windows environment setup using legacy tools for workflow purposes who simply can't afford the risk.

After upgrading my laptop to Windows 10 it disabled the touchpad. I had to use a mouse to navigate to device manager and re-enable it there.

The average consumer doesn't know what device manager is and will think their laptop is broken. It's far from convenient.

Still debating if I should go to 10 on the desktop. Honestly quite like 8.1 Pro with the iobit start button.

But you're right. In two years time when the good one has beaten the crap one and it settles down and there are more than two games for it I might look again.

I think either way I am not being screwed over with PC hardware again so I think I will get the PS4 VR. At least that way the games will actually work and there will be more of them.

Unless they've updated it since, I've heard that the PS4 VR should have a really crappy headband comfort-wise. :/

While true( like the launcher not always working in W10 first try) it's still in development and won't come out for a while. I'm sure they are working on other stuff too.

It's not that big of a deal. A working game is better than a game that looks amazing but is filled with bugs. If they have to reduce VX on PC to ensure good performance because they aren't able to push visuals without hurting good performance then I'm all for it.

This is the middle finger -

"We do have to keep it in check with the consoles, It would be kind of unfair to push it so far away from them"

The only reason I can see them doing that is either to get it out as soon as possible as they don't have time to polish it and really push it graphically due to publisher pressure OR they want both versions to be close to eachother maybe due to crossplay ?

The latter to me kinda makes sense.

Relax dude it's not for the reasons you think.

If I take Watchdogs and try and play it with the highest settings @4k it runs like turd with the settings turned up. It's because they are lazy and probably use quad Titan X in their design rigs.

They won't have dropped the graphics to make them look like the consoles they would have done it for performance reasons to make sure that people can actually play it when they launch it instead of it being a slide show.

Nah you've read it wrong, it's nothing to do with graphics they mean gameplay. For example the PC CPU/memory is way better so they could run with it and create even more gameplay, more customisation, etc, etc, but then it would be unfair to console players because they would be purchasing a lesser game in comparison. If they release a product under the same name then they must keep the content alike.

How do you think I feel? £1100 worth of GPUs still can't play games maxed out at 4k !

PC gaming is the biggest waste of money ever dude. It really is like chasing the dragon.

I'm done. I'm going to play through my back library but I don't feel excited to game any more. I've barely even touched Tomb Raider and Fallout 4 was a slog at times.

I can load up Crysis and it looks just as good as any modern game. That's how badly we are held back by the consoles. The one game designed for PC and PC only and it still looks stunning today.

I had a rant about this the other day. Thought it was just me getting older but I don't think it is. I have a feeling the PC market isn't too far away from a complete collapse tbh.

First off, no ever said that spending any amount of money would achieve top tier graphics @4K. Quite the contrary in fact, pretty much every article you read will say that 4K is too demanding for current hardware.

As for PC gaming, even "The Division" with its reduced graphical fidelity is still superior graphically to the console counterpart. As with almost every game available across all platforms, only the PC version will run at anything above 1080 with higher resolution texture support and usually more graphical tweaks. If you would be happy gaming in resolutions between 720 - 1080 @ 30-60fps, then I would fully recommend a console. Personally however I like the detail and obtainable smoothness of 1440. Only available to PC users and still a big step up from 1080.

The problem isn't the hardware. It's the sloppy, rushed for the $ crap games.

The PC is a second payday, that's it. If games were properly made and properly optimised they would run correctly.

See also - Half Life 2. When it came out it looked absolutely stunning and ran on any moderately decent GPU at full settings.

PC gaming is a complete con. Look at Batman for an example of that.

Man, that fault is so typical of Razer. My step son's Tron mouse does that and he's only had it about 18 months. Cost a bloody fortune too, you'd expect it to have proper switches for that much money.

I'm using this one. Its fantastic. It puts Razers innovative naga to shame.

More comfortable, better macro functionality and support, CUE is far better than synapse. Better feel on the buttons, adjustable thumb pad was a god send for me. and fits my hand far more comfortable than all the nagas.

And when Im switching between SLI and single gpu i dont have to close CUE, unlike Synapse ;)

Copy and paste of my comment on the video.

I bought it on the Xbox One because I wanted to see what it was like and after 2 hours I was put off and have not played it since.

It is almost like Need For Speed Underground and Underground 2 but it's also so close to all the latest games which have lost so many of the PC Need For Speed players.

If I wanted my car to blow up after hitting something I would play Burnout, if I wanted a simulation type racing game I would play Project Cars or something like that, but if I just wanted to throw a car around corners at high speed without a care in the world then I would play Need For Speed but with every game after Need For Speed Undercover you cannot do that, you have to think about taking a corner to fast or hitting a car that just happens to move in front of you at the last second.

The Need For Speed games are what I played when I was younger because they were fun, I never liked the Gran Turismo games so I never played them after the first one.

I have nearly all the Need For Speed Games on the PC and this is more than likely the first that I won't have because of the issues I have with the stupid simulation style crash system!

I liked Parvum cases for a while. I contacted them back in 2014 to get a full ATX case done but they wanted £500 so I decided to get a Cosmos 2.

Since then they have been huge on the modding scene and I guess after a while they all start to look the same (given that Parvum only had two cases then). I mean sure people changed them up a little bit but fundamentally they were the same.

I've nothing against how they look, I've just seen too many of them now.

I would like to see some cases in different shapes.

I don't think PCCG will be getting anymore Parvum cases cause they told me last year they haven't sold as good as they were hoping unless something as changed, So it would have to be another computer shop and i really can't see that happening.

There are games which look worse, run worse and use more resources. Fallout 4 immediately comes to mind. Meanwhile off the chain like Ethan Carter runs fine with 3GB.

No doubt having 32GB and storing the entire game on the VRAM would be better but in the real world, now, even Titan X's run out of power long before memory.

Bad coolers on the 290/290x yeah but the new ones are very good. Was impressed by my 390x XFX unit I had a while back, was quiet and kept it from going over 77C in games. The extra vram would help you a lot though if you are having trouble at 3GB which is a plus. I'd probably wait it out till Polaris or Pascal though. Seeing as they are not that far away and with 14/16nm finfet heat probably won't be bad with either company.

Was the 390 a blower style cooler or the normal DD card? I can't run a non blower style card in my case unless said card is low-ish TDP.
