Dell Offering OS-Free Laptop?

In a surprise move by Dell, it seems that they are finally listening to their end users requests to have the option of more machines without operating systems, along with a plan to reduce the amount of pre-installed software on its other systems.

Blimey. "I'll take a Dell with an AMD chip and a copy of Windows not pre-load with all Dell's usual crap please."

Hmm

How much cheaper is it, I thought xp home OEM was only like £30 or something

Also for the pre-installed software, just format the drive and start again using the cdkey on the pc/laptop

I will be surprised if they do linux pre-installed as so many people don't know anything about it and will undoubtedly be phoning dell support every 5minutes

Sounds like they might charge customers for linux tho? can they legally do that? I'm pretty sure the time it would take is minutes as they would use disk images rather than running thru the installer.

lol at the title of the other news article tho

I wouldn't have thought so under the open source agreement. Unless they installed a commercial version, perhaps.

Yeah I thought that the 'crapware' inclusion was quite amusing too

It appears wholly speculative. But, reading between the lines I'd like to think that there is a considerable amount of truth to it.

IMO Dells suck becasue of that loaded crap. If Dells did give the option of offering hardware with a clean HD i would have alot more respect for them.
