Nvidia GTX 1080Ti Specifications leak

If thats true it would definitely be worth an overclock to the GDDR5 memory to bring it over 9.0gbps mark. The other cuts really don't look to bad. Although no GDDR5X is still disappointing.

Will try and curb my enthusiasm until HMB2 lands, although its unlikely I'll be able to lol

It makes sense. Every time Nvidia release a TI card they usually make Titan and its owners look a little silly. I would hazard a guess and say that all Titan sales pretty much dry up as soon as they release the TI which is kinda stupid.

So, I surmise that this time they are going to do with the TI - Titan XP as they did with the 1070-1080. IE - make sure that whatever you do you can not match the higher card's performance with the cheaper one. That way they will still continue to sell XPs and sell the failed ones (1080ti) whilst still binning.

I read another article rumouring this card might be released at CES Jan 2017 as the big boss of Nvidia is going there to announce everything new from Nvidia and possibly to steal the thunder from AMD re their new Vega cards but I hope the release is sooner than that, I hope the new Vegas really kick some serious butt as we need the competition

Are NVidia really going to use GDDR5 on the 1080 Ti when both the 1080 and Titan use DDDR5X, don't think so.

Did they use GDDR5X on the 1070?

See what I said above man. If it's nearly the same spec as the Titan XP with the same memory who is going to buy a Titan XP?

No but they used GDDR5X on the 1080, a card that would be below the 1080 Ti.

No I think this story is another silly rumour.

Yes it makes commercial sense, just don't know if they will actually do it. I suspect we won't see a Ti until everyone who is going to buy a Titan has already bought one. It was about 6 months after the last Titan we saw the 980Ti

The business decision before now has been a bit silly. Release the TX, wait for sales to slow or stop then release the TI. However, the second they do that no TX will sell no matter what unless some one needed the memory for rendering.

If the TI comes out and is nowhere near as good as the TX then the TX will likely get a second wind.

Some people just want to buy the best no matter what the price. Even if the TX was 5% faster after all was said and done those people would still buy the TX.

As I said earlier I think there is going to be a bigger gap this time that cannot be closed, leaving the TXP top of the heap no matter what happens.

The GTX 1080Ti will still have significantly more memory bandwidth than the GDDR5 using GTX 1080, so the downgrade to GDDR5 will not give the GTX 1080Ti less performance than the GTX 1080, despite the fact that the GTX 1080 uses newer memory technology.

Is it only me or is that sentence really correct?...

While it does seem like a strange decision on paper GDDR5 does make sense for the GTX 1080Ti.

Traditionally the Titan series GPUs have 2x the memory capacity of the GTX Ti variant, this time will be different so Nvidia needed to come up with another advantage.

With GDDR5 memory the GTX 1080Ti will have less bandwidth than the Titan X Pascal but still have plenty more than the GTX 1080. It makes sense when you consider it as a product between the 1080 and the Titan X Pascal.

The final memory bandwidth is important, not the memory that is used to achieve it.

If the 1080ti performs where you want it to—and nVidia hasn't disappointed in that area for a while—then it really doesn't matter what memory it has.

Also, wasn't there a rumour that TX Volta will be out next year? If that's true it doesn't matter if TX Pascal is ousted by the 1080ti because people could just wait another six months for big Volta. I don't think that'll happen, but it was rumoured.

I personally think the 1080ti, whether with GDDR5X or GDDR5, will perform below the Titan XP, but match it when AIB partners perform their standard overclocks and add their superior thermal and power control hardware.

I don't think so dude. No 1070 can match a 1080 no matter how hard you try.

I think this round they have wised up tbh

It's up in the air. The 970 could be overclocked to 980 levels, the 980ti could be overclocked to be well above a Titan X. But they were very close in specifications. As said above, the 1070 and 1080 have very different specifications. I'm not saying it's definite, and I'm certainly not saying it'll beat a Titan XP like the the 980ti could beat a Titan X (Maxwell), but it could be possible with heavy overclocks a 1080ti would match a Titan XP.
