Introducing the SilverStone RV05 - A return to form?

The SilverStone Raven series of cases have always been always been a fairly unique case design, the rotated orientation of the chassis was something that was praised by many enthusiasts but didn't come without compromises to both space efficiency and cable management.

The Raven RV05 is a design that eliminates many of these issues. Lets see how it looks.

This iteration of the SilverStone's Raven chassis will be smaller than all previous Ravens, with the exception of the Mint ITX RVZ01, while still being able to contain full ATX Motherboards and giant GPUs including AMD's R( 295X2.

SilverStone do this be removing the 5.25" drive bays in their entirety, drastically shortening this rather long case, this change is very welcome given how few of us actually use an optical drive. However Disk users will be able to install a single slim slot-loading optical drive if required.

I do like this move, as an owner of the Raven RV03 I do not use many of the Raven's 7 total 5.25" drive bays, leaving so much unused space. Also the lack of these drive bays makes the front of the case be made from one single piece, which looks much cleaner than my RV03.

The case will still use SilverStone famous 180mm Air Penetrator fans as a bottom intake, maintaining positive air pressure inside the case and reducing dist buildup.

There are also a few iterative refinements compared to their previous Rotated Raven's including, a Bottom dust filter which is removable from the front and increased space above the rear IO for superior cable management. SilverStone seem to be listening to their fans here.

(^ Raven RV03 ^)

This case will be releasing on July 3rd and will retail for around 90 euros in Europe and $120 in the US.

What do you think of SilverStone's newest version of its Raven Chassis? Has this Dark Knight spark your interest? Please post in the comments below.

I was actually considering selling my 901 to get one recently. However considering my lack of space I decided against it :'). Ugly cases appeal to me and quite a few times I nearly bought the RV01 a few months ago.

I find these hard to like, some parts just look old, like the right side panel. And the inside just doesn't appeal to me very well

The inside of the case doesn't appeal to me. I'm not really a fan of silverstone though.

love my RV03, it's actually displaced my Lian Li V2000 I love it so much
however, I do quite like a few 5.25 bays, I use those drawer things for bits & bobs, not to mention I'm one of those old fashioned folk who still likes to buy CDs and rip them myself to some kind of acceptable quality..
so not quite convinced by this one yet

It's taken me about 10 minutes to figure out which way round it is. Thanks for the trick last picture, I was starting to thing HDD's went in the back and it was asymmetrical (perhaps put it next to the the new one instead of randomly throwing it at the end).

I find it really weird how the motherboard slopes forward, it's just all out perculiar and I can see it really working with some builds like M7H's and Strikers or Strix cards that are all angular and angry. It wouldn't work with X79 boards and rigid tubing though lol. Just through shear stupidity this could go really right or really wrong, it could however be a TR7 moment.

JR

Edit; Hang on wait what? Aren't the graphics cards going to look awful unless your behind it :/ this is an even bigger PCB fest than a normal case.

Even more of an excuse to get custom backplates.
