Ubisoft Downgrading "The Division" Graphics Across The Board

Dicehunter

Resident Newb
An "insider" at Ubisoft today reported that Ubisoft are downgrading the graphics of the division to fall more in line with the PS4 and Xbox One so they won't look so bad next to the PC also locking it on PC and consoles to 30 fps as well as low resolutions.

As a lot of us here know Ubisoft recently did this with Watchdogs even though they denied it when the proof was shown to them.

And another bit of disappointing news from Ubisoft is that the studio who are making the division "Massive" use to be a hardcore PC developer but thanks to Ubisofts buying power they seem to now praise the current underpowered consoles very highly and have completely left the PC behind.

Gaming is going down the pan.

Just because Ubisoft are having a 'moment' doesn't mean gaming as a whole is going to sh** ;). Heck, EA and others aren't doing it.

Not fussed by this at all, the game was going to be poor anyway imo. The only thing that bothers me is them graphically limiting Far Cry 4. Then again I imagine that'll be easy to hack as well.

EA are just as bad with their performance and bugs, They said they will do something about it but they wont and we all know it :(

Atleast they aren't downgrading on purpose for consoles. They're trying to improve their image with the PC community, unlike Ubisoft. TBH I'm betting some big publisher will go in the opposite direction to Ubisoft so they gain positive publicity with the PC community.

They are though, i'm no EA fanboy but to be fair they are working hard and they are fixing things now.
They have the community test server for BF4 now where they have already fixed a lot of things and put them into the main game and they are working on fixing a lot more things.
The Battlefield Hardline Beta is also a proper Beta and not the only one, there will be another at a later date. The game isn't out till October/November, they are doing Betas earlier now so they can get player feedback and fix the game long before it is out.

Ubisoft just have a bad attitude towards PC gamers, they accuse PC gamers of being 99% pirates and as we have seen in Watch Dogs and now The Division they have/are dumbing down the PC versions for no real reason.

This is a very sore topic. I hate "the race to the bottom" It is a sad day when we accept the lowest common denominator as the standard. I always think this mentality is brought on by the marketing department and the desire to sell sell sell.

Maybe I am biased, but its still a sad day

The Division they have/are dumbing down the PC versions for no real reason.

But there is a reason behind it, The publishers don't want their games to look worse on console so they keep them all at the same IQ level which is just annoying.

I wouldn't call that a reason though :p
It is more of a marketing tactic than anything, they are using it in a way to make console appear more powerful than they are. Really they aren't just being asshats to PC gamers by dumbing down the graphics, they are also exploiting console gamers by making them think their console are just as good as a PC when it comes to graphics.

They make more money from console sales than they do form PC, so by doing this they can make a few more sales by making it so you get just as good on the console as you do on PC.
I don't know why they do this though because they would make even more PC sales if they made the PC version as good as it could be on PC.

I see a lot of complaints on forums about NVIDIA and AMD's branding with game makers. NVIDIA pushing their own game API's and AMD pushing Mantle.

But when they don't step in and offer developers money and assistance we end up with this. It's a really shit situation for us PC gamers who spend sometimes more than an entire console costs on just a graphics card.

In my own system I could buy four XBOX ONE's just for the cost of my graphics + waterblocks on those cards but developers don't give a shit about me or how much PC gamers spend on their hardware.

Honestly next upgrade cycle I might just axe the desktop entirely and go laptop only if trends like this continue for games I do want to play.

Screw you ubisoft, not that i was remotely interested in the division but this sort of thing really pisses me off, new gen consoles are not the pinnacle of gaming, get over it.

Whats to say that ubisoft wont give the same treatment to The Crew, 30 fps on racing is a big No thanks.

Indeed, Whats really sad is that the consoles came out already very underpowered when compared to the last gen Xbox 360 and PS3 at the time, Even certain devs have said this :(

I am not really looking forward to the division because one of my biggest problems with online gaming as a whole, is I don't have a dedicated group of people to play with. I enjoy games that involve team work and coordination, but I don't take it as seriously as a lot of people seem to do. I am not a pro at gaming and it is annoying when my team expects me to be. I am not going to lose my composure if I lose a game. I play to have fun. I am having a hard time finding people who fit that same mindset and are not wickedly childish. I also like to play goofy sometimes with no intent of winning. Pick some off the wall strategy and just have fun.

Ahh, don't you guys remember when people said next gen will be good for PC?

Good times.

Ubisoft need to realize that what they are doing is alienating us, console gamers don't care what it looks like on PC! They already know its a higher performance platform!

Only took them 6 months to fix the netcode, right?
They released a fucked up game and now they are taking ages to fix it. Nothing positive about that. The game should've never been released in that state. You can only work hard at fixing stuff if you messed up earlier and DICE didn't mess up for the first time.
No point in supporting any big developer/publisher, there's just no passion in it and as long as people will buy their crap and basically have a positive attitude towards anything as long as they make promises that won't change.
FFS people, can't there be consequences for once? Every time a developer messes up people vow to never support them again, but as soon as they do some minor fixes or some stupid new beta releases everything is forgiven and the circle jerk starts all over again. It's like slapping a dog in the face, he might hate you for a day but soon he will forget and if you have a small treat he will come back.

Wut?

I'm not supporting them, or forgiving them. Just saying that they are fixing things. They are doing a good job of fixing BF4, better late than never but at least from now on we aren't going to get a repeat performance as they are implementing these things in to all future games.

I'm still not preordering any of their games but they are trying and doing a good job at making things right. So for that I give them credit, nothing more, nothing less.

Nope, if a game isn't running properly after max a month after release it's a failure and they can pretty much fuck off with their fixes. I can't just hand in a paper six months late and then say "well at least i delivered" either. BF4 is pretty much a copy of BF3 (which was broken for ages as well btw), so those mistakes should've never happened in the first place.
They are supposed to be professionals but they are acting like amateurs. A child you can forgive for making mistakes because it is still in the process of learning, but stupidity like that displayed by DICE should be punished, not encouraged.
Everyone deserves a second chance, but the second chance should be the final one. It takes something remarkable to regain my confidence after fucking up as many times as DICE did.
You wouldn't lend money to a friend who keeps letting you down either, doesn't matter whether he sends an "I'm sorry" card or not.

As I said, i'm not defending them or supporting them. Simply saying that they are fixing things and doing a good job of it.
I never said that it makes up for the crap they have already done.

But at least they are doing something now and are going to continue to do it for all future games. They could just keep doing what they have been doing, but they aren't and they are changing how they do things. So for that at least you have to give them credit.

I'm not making out that EA is all of a sudden good and that we should all buy their games, they are improving though, which is a good thing.

There's a point where doing some good isn't good enough anymore. They've broken promises and disappointed me far too often, i can't give them credit for doing a little good, especially if it's something that should be considered a normal thing.
If a man slaughters 10 people and then gives a kid a lollypop nobody will give him credit for that either.
