How to clean your keyboard

I wasn't sure where to post this and you cannot go wrong with off topic. So I need to clean my Logitech G510, I've tried with damp cloths and those putty things that are supposed to pick up any dust and crap but The gunk that id stuck on the keys is still there and I hate it.

Before this I had a cheaper keyboard that I used to dismantle and wash it in warm soapy water with a toothbrush and every 3 months or so, it was like having a new keyboard.

So my question is this, does anyone have experience with dismantling any high end keyboards, I'm scared because of the complexities with the lcd monitor and the led's for the keys and I'm not sure that if I open it I will be able to put it back together (god forbid that the membrane keys are singles and not a single piece, that would be a nightmare).

yeah i took apart my qpad mk85 pro key for key, used the putty stuff and it worked really well, hoover the main structure and then just clean the keys, be sure not to remove the grease on any metal bits and all should be grand. The leds should be fine mate.

I removed all the screws and it just wouldn't come off, the rear piece that has the cable coming through it doesn't want to come off. So I aborted the mission and I must conclude mission failed -.-

I managed to work something out, I am removing the keys one section at a time, till now I did the number pad and washing the keys one by one, its a tedious job but over the next day hopefully I'll get it done.

After cleaning all the minor sections, it was time for the main section and look at all the crap that accumulated over 2 years.

apart from the alt and ctrl keys that are going in really tight and don't come back up if you press them, weird weird stuff.

Yes haha, the alt are different as one is alt and the other is alt gr, I checked from the pictures I had and alt gr goes on the right side, still very tight. And the ctrl just don't fit in the wrong side as the bottom part is slanted to compliment the design of the keyboard itself. And tbh I tried putting them in the opposite place and still the same story with the alt and the ctrl dont fit

Goddamit I've been fiddling with the left ctrl cause thats the most important right now, it's been about one hour and it's already driving me crazy. Both the key and the keyboard are clean, the keyboard is flawless and the keys look ok, nothing bent, nothing weird looking, it looks exactly the same as the other keys, I'm out of ideas right now, I can't live without the left ctrl.

Edit: apperently it's the keyboard, I tried another key that works perfectly in its own place and still is very tight when in place of the left alt button.

Just for cleaning the tops of the keys to get rid of the grease/gunk that builds up, I found Brasso gadget clean works really well (smells weird though).

I have an old G510 that I accidentally spilled a cup of coffee on and took it outside and sprayed it out with the hose. Just make sure you don't get water in the LCD area. I then dried it out as much as I could with a air hose and let it set out in the sun for a couple of hours. It worked just fine , but since then I did what you did and removed all the keys and cleaned it better. I laid the keys out the way they are on the keyboard , and cleaned each one.

It's official, I give up, whenever I have the funds I will get a new mouse and keyboard unless I manage to fix this shit until then. For now I reassigned the left ctrl and alt to the G16 and G18 keys so atleast I can use them. Now even the left windows key is getting stuck but I never used that so I'm not worrying much.

Suddenly 2 of the 5 keys that were stuck now work perfectly and the left alt button is loosening up, weird weird shit.

Some sort of tech ghost exist for sure, I hate it when something goes bad, I buy a new one and suddenly as soon as I arrive home with the new one, the old one starts working again. The same if I'm browsing for some parts, lately I've been contemplating to buy me a Corsair K90 and a Corsair M95 and bam keyboard starts fucking up. And ghost if you're reading this behind my back, FUCK YOU!

EDIT: What the actual fuck? I stuck another key in place of the ctrl and alt and jerked it like there's no tomorrow, placed the proper keys back in place and suddenly they work perfectly, this deserves a hige big fuckin FML!

ps. sorry for cursing a lot but this was frustrating as hell.
