New Build Project: Big Shell

Hey folks,

My names Colin and I thought i'd share my new ongoing PC build with you guys. My old Athlon 64 x 2 4400 system is on its last legs and hence the reason for the change.

I've built around 9 PC's before in the past, for both friends and family. Four of them were for my own usage. They have all been fairly low spec and low budget AMD machines. This time though I really want to build a good mid range PC and maybe try a few customizations like watercooling and extra personalisation that makes a rig stand out more

So here is a few pictures of the kit I have to hand.







So far the spec list reads

• MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming
• Intel i7 4770K
• Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB 2133

Sadly this is all I can afford this month. Over the next couple of months I intend to buy kit until she is complete. In next months shopping basket we should see an AX860 and a NZXT Switch 810 Gunmetal Grey.

I haven't decided upon the other components as of yet so will be looking to you guys for help and some ideas of what will work with my rig. As you can see the theme will be primarily black and red so in keeping with the theme I will base my parts around that.

As far as cooling is concerned I have no idea what to do. I really want a kick ass watercooling loop but a decent one will be about £350 which will somewhat delay the time that it takes to get the rig up and running. My thoughts would be to go for a second hand H100 or something just to get her going then i could use the machine while I save for other watercooling parts.

Midrange you say? That kit is pretty high end if you ask me
You'll probably not need an ax860. It's a nice power supply but probably too much, so you can save some there full blown watercooling is always nice ofcourse, but get the basics ready first. Good luck!

Like ^ said you don't NEED an AX860, but I personally would get one, it's nice to have the extra headroom and future proofing I think i speak for us all when I say GET THAT RAM IN AND TAKE SOME PR0N SHOTS!!!

I could use my Antec TP-550W to power the rig for the time being. I just want to prioritise my purchases in order to get the rig up and running and also test the stuff i've bought to make sure its working as it should. Wouldn't want to build a full rig then find out something is dead...
