Deep End (+Refresh)

So I haven't posted my PC on here before. I've been watching Tom's videos for a long time but never got onto the forum so hello everyone! I thought I would do a very fast recap of my build log for this forum. I am just about to start the process of a refresh and an upgrade. A full rebuild will be undertaken!

This was my first ever custom built PC. It was a 2500k, P8P67 Pro and a GTX 460 all wrapped up in a 600T and I thought it was awesome! As you can see my PC building (and photography) skills have improved a little over the short period of time I've had!

Well it didn't last long like that! I ended up with a 2600k and a GTX 580 among other things! Then I saw build logs and started planning and this happened. I found the water and jumped in at the deep end!

Which resulted in this

Things needed testing that they fit

P1000571.jpg

A 200mm radiator in the front

P1000597.jpg

A 240mm in the roof

And finished! This is the point where, in my opinion, it was at it's best looking

This lasted a little while till I got the upgrade bug and an offer I couldn't refuse! Up to x79 and a 3960x.

Chucked it all back in without doing much work to it. (I was very busy at the time + I wanted to game!)

And this was where I was up too a year ago.

Since then the PC has worked flawlessly. The CPU I have overclocks very well (it should do, it was hand picked from a batch) running 4.8 with minimal voltage bump and no real temp rise.

And here I am about to start the rebuild. I just picked up a second 580 and block which I whipped in very quickly over the weekend (dissertation due in this week, hence the rushed job!)

A sneak peek of where I am now!

Anyway I hope this wasn't too much of a rush and I look forward to sticking around this great community!:)

Haha, love the naked RAM, totally retro

But nice build, the blue in those tubes reminds me somewhat of a swimming pool/lagoon.

Ha the RAM is 2GB sticks of 1333MHz horribleness! I'm about to pull the trigger on some decent stuff, either Patriot Intel Extreme or Corsair Dominator Platinum. That is number one on the priority for the refresh as I think the rubbish RAM is holding back overclocks and benchmarks at the moment!

Looks awesome, but what's up with the ghetto sponge pump mount?

I'd fix that, and then tighten up those PCIe cables on the top card so they look cleaner/aren't drooping down. Those are just my opinions and what I would do, I know you said it's still in-progress. When you get the build/upgrade log thread going I'll be sure to sub :).

-Edit-: What coolant is that? I really love that shade of blue. Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys! The sponge is a "Shoggy Sandwich" some of the best decoupling material for vibration. Makes the pump silent! Coolant is Mayhems UV blue watered down with deionised water to get the lighter colour. I will stick a proper project log when things get underway again.

Future plans involve:
  • Backplates and single slot brackets for the 580s
  • Braiding all cables
  • Motherboard waterblock
  • 16GB of fast RAM
  • Fast connection to my server (Teamed 5GB ethernet, 4GB Fiber Channel or 10GB ethernet)
  • Dye the Shoggy Sandwich grey
  • Sound proof case
  • Windowed Side panel so I can see it all!

That's about it for the plans for now. I would like to move to a bigger case with more rad space. I'm thinking about a TJ07 with a 480mm in the bottom and a 360mm up top, but that is daydreaming at the moment!

Loving he blue coolant! The whole build just... well, works! That SLI Bridge is very nice.
Have you thought about flipping the PSU for looks?

As an owner of a 600T, I must say hats off to you. That's a really PROPERLY done 600T. I gotta ask though, what are your temperatures like with two 580's AND a six core Intel processor with just the 240 in the roof and the 200 in the front? I am always afraid of trying two cards on a single 200 rad for fear of things getting too toasty.

Thanks everyone! The temperatures aren't too bad, even with both CPU and GPU overclocked, neither is reaching particularly high temperatures. I have an Aquacomputer Aquaero set up controlling the fans according to coolant temp, which does a pretty good job of keeping things cool and quiet.

Although saying that I am eyeing up bigger cases, maybe a TJ07 with a 480mm + 360mm. I want to really push the overclocks in silence! May have to wait a few months!

NOOOOOO don't do it, it's a tarp! Everything looks so good in that chassis as it is D-8. However, should you actually go this route, a TJ07 wouldn't be too shabby. Haven't seen a build in one of those in a while... I just love me some 600T x-)

I know quite a few people aren't very fond of it, but I quite like the TJ07.
Would certainly be interested in a build like that (you know, with a proper
internal paint job and all the stuff that would be needed to bring it up to
today's standards).
