Here are a couple videos I made about the Sans Digital MR2UT+B that I have and my efforts to make it quieter.

I have absolutely no issues at all with the build quality of the unit, in fact, it has one of the highest build qualities that I have ever seen. Everything about it feels rock solid and is extremely well built.

The performance with the drives I have in it are on par with internal SATA performance, but they are only barracuda 7200.11 drives, so I can't say how the performance would be with faster drives.

I tested USB3.0 and eSATA speeds back when I had my Sabertooth X58 motherboard, and the speeds were the same with the drives I was using (which were 1TB Western Digital Green drives with 32MB of cache)

I have had it running in RAID 1 for most of the time I have had it and there have been no issues. It is really easy to get it set up, you just set the dial at the back according to what mode you want to use and then you format the drive using either Windows disk management or OS X disk utility. I have also tried the spanning feature and the JBOD feature and those work fine as well.

The only issue that I have with it is that the dual bay model uses a small 40mm fan for cooling and it runs at a high RPM and creates quite a bit of noise. The units I've seen that house a larger number of drives use a 120mm fan, which I can only imagine would be quieter. For this dual bay unit I would like to see maybe high quality mesh on the sides. rear, and top in addition to the mesh that is already at the front of the drive trays, that way it should be able to operate passively and it would be much better that way, in my opinion. The other option would be fitting a slightly larger fan such as a 60mm fan and maybe running it a bit slower than the 40mm runs.

What I ended up doing was running it with the fan and putting it into the shelf that my computer sits on, which has the open side facing away from me when I'm sitting at my desk, so that muffles quite a bit of the annoying fan noise and I don't really notice it too much anymore.

Here are some pictures.
