'Monochrome' build log

hello guys and girlys,
i´m finally starting my new rig... i´ve waited long enough. upgrading from a q6600 and gtx 295. i love all this shiny new hardware and looking forward to the new build. i was so impressed by toms orca build i had to nick a couple of his ideas... the roof mod for example (hope thats alright tom )
specs listed below

new hardware
  • case: storm stryker
  • cpu: core i7 3770k
  • board: msi z77 mpower
  • ram: 16gb corsair vengeance pc3 2133 cl10
  • gpu: evga 670 ftw
  • sound: asus xonar d2x
  • cooling: h100 + sp120´s push/pull (will sell the h100 and get a h100i)
  • ssd: 120gb corsair force gt
  • psu: corsair ax750 (will sell it and get a ax 760i)
  • fans: 4 corsair af 120´s and 1 corsair af 140 (not bought yet)
old hardware i´ll be using
  • ssd: 120gb corsair force gt
  • hdd: 2x 1.5tb wd green
  • os: win 8 pro
  • peripherals: logitech wave mouse + keyboard, logitech driving force gt, xbox 360 wireless controller

all the shiny new hardware

and again

the case:
i almoust bought the switch 810 but then i saw toms orca rig and i fell in love with the stryker

front

top

and the lovely window

the motherboard:
when i started looking for a new board i was instandly thinking msi gd65, but when the mpower was released i thought "that board looks amazing" and after toms review i had to have it

the box

the certificate

the accessories

the board

and again

and again

the cpu:

i´ll be doing some video editing and music recording with the rig so i went for the 3770k instead of the 3570k

numbers

installed

and again

the memory:

i went with 2133 cl10 corsair vengeance... thanks guys for the help in the build advice without you lot i would have bought the 1600 ones

specs

the sticks

the gpu:
i was a nvidia fanboy since i started playing around with computers years ago so i went for the gtx 670

the card

and again

the soundcard:
i love music and i´ve been playing drums for over 15 years so i needed a propper soundcard in this rig. i went for the asus xonar d2x because it performs and looks great

the lovely card itself

from a different angle

the ssd´s:
i already had one corsair force gt from my old rig... and when i saw what tom has done with them in the stryker i had to go and buy another one. thanks for your work tom it´s very inspiring...

my two lovelylittle darlings

the psu:
i bought a corsair ax750 but i will sell it and get the ax760i, if i cant sell it to a friend of mine i´ll put it in the for sale & wanted section its brand new and hasnt been opened yet

cooling:
just like the psu i will sell the h100 and get a h100i... it also hasnt been opened yet

the fans:
i went for 4 corsair sp 120 performence edition fans for the h100i, 4 corsair af 120 performence edition fans and 1 corsair af 140 fan for the case

i love their design

i´m still waiting for the h100i, the ax760i, the af120´s, the af 140 and some other bits and pieces so i started with modding the stryker... thanks tom for the roof mod guide for the trooper/stryker

i started with stripping down the case

pretty naked already now its time to say good bye to the handle

the cables were looking really messy... a couple of cable ties later it looks a lot better

ssd dock and all the rest is gone

alot of stuff

just a few screws

now its time for some modding action

the lines... i decided to keep holes to screw in the 3rd fan

after cutting

after filing and sanding

with the fans installed

next thing the harddrive cages... i drilled a few holes so i can have fans in the front and the side. these fans will go and make room for the af 120´s two of the fans wont be very functional but it looks better with two fans on each side

i like it...

next thing is the handle... i want to keep the handle functional so i had to do two new plates for the handle

the new plates

new and old ones

now bend the handle

and the other side

all together

new plates testfitted

with handle

now get rid of the plastic underneath the mesh

after the cutting

after sanding

with the mesh back on

now the cut underneath the handle... another thanks to ttl

with the handle

and again

from above... havent painted the new handle plates yet

the whole roof

so far so good... havent thougt about how to fit the ssd´s yet. thats the next job. i havent got a name for the rig yet my surename is white maybe that could go into the name. hope you lot could can help me to find a name. please leave comments and thoughts

thanks for watching
