Fractal R4 black/red build

Hi all.

I thought that as I've been watching the OC3D youtube videos recently, I thought I would join the forum and post a thread about my rig, as it's finally (well, almost) finished.

Spec:

Case - Fractal Design Define R4 (black)
Motherboard - Asus Maximus V Gene (Intel Z77)
CPU - Intel i5-3570K
Memory - Corsair Dominator Platinum 8GB (2x4GB, 1600MHz)
Cooler - Corsair H80i
Storage - Samsung 830 256GB SSD, Sony DVDRW
GPU - Asus GTX 670 2GB
PSU - Corsair AX860i
Fans - 3x Corsair AF140 (2 front intake, 1 roof exhaust), 2x Corsair SP120QE (on H80i radiator)

Connected up to:

Monitor - Dell U2312HM 23" LED IPS
Keyboard - Microsoft Sidewinder X4
Mouse - Logitech G400


The R4's HDD cage has been completely removed, as I'm only using 1 SSD drive (mounted in the 5.25" bay beneath the DVDRW). I hate clutter, so I've tried to keep all the cables as tidy as I could. I know that it's an mATX motherboard in an ATX case, and I could have used something smaller like the Define mini, but it allows for any future upgrades without having the get a larger case.

The next thing that I want is the R4 windowed side panel, but I can't seem to find anywhere in the UK that has the black version in stock, only the white...

IMHO the mATX board looks out of place in that case, it's too small. Still it's a nice build

Nice build, using the same mobo in the Fractal Design Refine mini.

I don't want to post links to other websites, and can't send PM's yet, but if you do a search for FD-DEF-R4-PANEL-BLK, you'll find quite a few places with the white window panel for sale.

Nice rig. Very clean construction. what cosair cooler is that looks like an h80.

It's the new Corsair H80i (I've replaced the stock fans with 2x Corsair SP120QE's)

Looks tidy and you have a good case as well!

That's the window side panel for the Fractal R3 case I'm afraid, not the R4. They have the white R4 one though, just not black!

Very nice and tidy rig!

nice rig mate, but you should turn the fans on your h80 around, unless you have them filtered they will suck a load of dust into your case/radiator, making a messy performance destroyer over time

generally front/bottom = filtered intakes and back/top = unfiltered exaughsts

I was originally planning to have the fans on the rad blowing out of the case, but Corsair recommend pulling cool air from outside the case into and through the rad.

I agree about the dust issue though, I will look to either fit a filter between the case and first rad fan, or change the fans to exhaust out of the case.

Good choice of hardware there, good job.
