Your first build hey, just be careful when placing that cpu its its socket yeah. Take your time. You will only get one shot.
Why the need for 2011 chipset anyway? If its down to funds, the money saved on going down to z77 and a nice ivy chip would free up heaps of cash to put towards a nice gpu.
Nice case that black C70, at first I really didnt like them. Now after building a dozen or so of them they have grown on me. Except that green colour model. Yuk!
GLWB

Im going X79 so that its future proof for a while as 1155 sockets will slowly fade out i know i can get the 3820 cpu to 4.2 using the asus onboard overclocking.

Also looking at prices where isnt alot of difference from getting the Z77 with a i7 as ther is to getting the X79 with an i7.

im not looking at doing any major overclocking so i should see the problem with getting the x79 :)

The X79 uses the LGA 2011 socket. Unless your planning to upgrade within the Ivy Bridge series, you will be stuck. The new Haswell series due out will bring with it a new socket type, LGA 1150. I would save some cash, go with a Z77 series board with a Core i5, maybe the 3570k. If you aren't doing overclocking and not doing any major rendering, an i5 will be plenty powerfull enough. If you want to do a tad, then the 3570k will do you nicely.

Read some reviews, look at charts etc on both the 3770k and 3570k then decide what is right for you. The options for upgrading that cpu in the 2011 socket are REALLY expensive. I reckon you would be better off with the 3570k OR 3770K.

Change of motherboard and cpu

ill now be going for the MSI Z77A-GD65 due to it having 4 x 6gb/s sata connections where as the MSI MPOWER only has 2

and i will be going for the Intel i5 3570K

:)

Nice to see you taking the advice :p

When I was selecting the CPU for my current project, i spent alot of time weighing up 1155 vs 2011, in all honesty to see a real difference with 2011 your looking at not only twice the price, but twice the power consumption and heat output to deal with, meaning more spent on cooling and your PSU.

I eventually settled on the 3770k, but almost wish I'd saved myself a few bucks and got the 3570k, apparently those things are amazingly powerful and versitle for the price point, and it makes cooling your case and picking the right PSU easier.

I reckon you've made a pretty good decision ^_^

GL with build, cant wait for updates bud.

Sorry i haven't posted much recently. i am currently going through ordering all the bits and also i have been brought a lot of bits for Xmas :)

my motherboard has arrive today, i ended up going for the MSI MPower Z77

will keep you posted as more items arrive :)

nice choice mate
love the look of that board... just ordered one myself :)

When I was doing my research on components I also had the same dilemma, eventually I chose z77 because it was cheaper and very close in performance to the x79 for my needs
With the money I saved I got a really nice GPU card, the Gigabyte GTX 670
I think you made the right choice
:)

UPDATE!!

Case, motherboard and some fans are here.

i have stripped the case and applied my custom paint also painted the heatsink bit on motherboard.

pics to follow in a few days :)
