Maximus Gene Z/Gen 3

I found an ASUS Maximus Gene z/Gen 3 for $40 this weekend (It was a floor sample at a local retailer). I bought it because it was so cheap. Installed a 2600K onto the board to see if it will post and it did. I also updated the BIOS to the latest for support for Ivy Bridge. What also should I look for to be sure the board works properly; I will be running a 3570K on this board.

Well if it is working with a 2600k it will work fine with the 3570K. Just set it up as usual with a boot drive, try different SATA slots and RAM slots etc.

If it's working satisfactorily then you have a right steal on your hands. The z77 gene is a brilliant little board which fights side-by-side with the best of the ATX z77s.

Thanks for the advise. I am typing this on the system now. It seems to be working okay. I have not tried to change any BIOS settings yet and am using the 3570K with the stock cooler just to test out to see if the motherboard is working. So far I have had no problems. I installed my spare HDD with windows 8 installed and it started right up. When I tried to boot using my SSD and HDD with Windows 7 I get an error that windows could not load. I kinda expected that and will do a fresh install of windows 7 on the SSD when I get the system all put together. I noticed that you thought this was the Maximus V Gene. This is the Z68 Maximus IV GENE Z/GEN 3

Got it all torn back down. It seems to be working flawlessly. I checked the RAM, fan headers USB ports. Everything seems to be going well. I still need to check the PCI slots and the front panel connectors but I think they will be okay. I got the Raystorm block back on the CPU and will try to get everything else in over the weekend. Sill having trouble working out the internal layout of the res and pump. I may need to change out the 150 res for an 80. I think I can get just the tube for a good price. This will allow me more room for the GPU. Right now there is only about 10.5 inches of space.
