Hello all

I have followed the forums for a while but only getting round to a build now and am looking for some advice.

I have just purchased 2 EVGA GTX 690s. ATM as my computer stands I have as follows

P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 http://support.asus....Dh9nqBoiqs2jqua

&

i7 2700K CPU http://www.intel.com...html?proc=61275

The dilemma

Buy the best available IVY 22nm 1155 socket CPU now for around 400€ +- and then upgrade the motherboard and CPU to the 2011 socket, Ivy i7 Extreme edition cpu when ever that becomes available etc

OR

Go ahead and get a 2011 Motherboard and the Extreme i7 3960X 3.3Ghz 15MB S2011 now.

What I was thinking of getting

http://www.intel.com...html?proc=63696

&

http://www.asus.com/...age_IV_Extreme/

Which will throw my colour design a little off (White 500R case,White braided cables,Blue LED on fans and an NZXT led thingymajigy) as my motherboard atm is the blue design but tthats not all that important.

I obviously want to get the most out of the GTX 690s as they at the cost they are, they are pretty much the center piece and want to get the most from them now rather then wait as at the end of the day, there will always be a wait for something better.

I'm just unsure as the best way to go so any and all advice be it small or large will be very much appreciated.

Lets just pretend on this topic money is not an issue. But also dont want it thrown away needlessly so say for example someone happened to know an exact release date for the IVY extreme edition 2011socket and it was in a month then id obviously wait.

Much appreciation

NanuNanu

2011 is a good idea and i know you said that money isn't an issue however the 3930K isn't all that much worse than the 3960X.

And you will end up saving a few hundred on something you don't really need

You don't want money needlessly spent and you bought two 690's. Is that a typo or did you actually waste money on two?

The most important question is what will you be using this system for? If it is just for gaming, than two 690's is huge overkill!!!!

Hi all

Thanks so far for the replies. I will have a further look into the 3930K. As for the 2 690s, I had bought 1 at a pretty average price, as was already going to go for 2x680s Sli, and the 690 has better cooling and looks better IMO, and has less power consumption and while I was waiting for the stock to come in a person I know said they had Won one and was selling it so I got 1 X 690 @ 1000€ and the 2nd one @ 700€. Quad 680s would cost the same if not more so I saw it as a good option considering what they are.

So no it wasnt a typo. The system will be used for many things. 3D graphics design-Photoshop, Music creation using Reason and Cubase. Benchmarking. Some Gaming (cant wait for ass.Creed 3) I am pretty well up on my computer knowledge. I was more just looking for options and opinions, due to the dilemma I'm in with the IVY.

Really appreciate the replies.

PS: I did say "lets pretend money isnt an issue" I never said it wasnt an issue lol

As it stands now I have 3 36" full HD screens. And a 19" monitor will be added later. Only got 1 pair of eyes so that will be plenty for me lol

Not yet, is all in process of being finalised. Ripping out a corner unit to build a better space for everything. Running low on space so 2 screens are boxed away till get all hardware finished and the bits and pieces sorted. Cant wait though. Will certainly post pics and benchmark results if people interested then.
