I am deciding if I should wait for the formula or get the gene I will be using an i5-3570k

The main difference I understand is the form factor and the gene has less pcie slots as I don't think I am going to need loads I am wondering if I should get the gene now and if it will cost less.

Well I'm pretty sure that the "Formula" boards are for AMD I think you've got your socket a bit confused. The Gene will be appropriate for the i5-3570k but you'll want to be getting the z77 chipset board. The gene is a good choice motherboard but it is rather small. As far as I know the only z77 ROG board that is out currently is the Gene. You won't want to go with any of the other ROG boards atm since they are z68/p67. If you wanted a z77 full size ATX board and wanted to stick with Asus I would say look into the Sabertooth z77 board.

no he is right about it being the maximus V formula, asus generally use the names formula, gene and extreme for their rog boards, i would advise waiting for the formula or go for the sabertooth board

Gene = Small form factor

Formula = everything you will ever need

Extreme = as above but with the kitchen sink and an extra £100 dent in the wallet.

Crosshair = AMD chipset.

I would wait for the formula just to see its retail price. I am going to upgrade my MIVE for the new Maximus V extreme when ever they decide to release it. And the Formula.

oh, I went to newegg as I'm not too familiar with the ASUS ROG branded stuff ( I think it looks kinda gimicky) and didn't see any intel boards with the words Formula on them which is why I said it.

The z77 gene has been out for a little while and is a brilliant board. From what I've seen of the full size z77 ROG boards and, looking at how well the gene performs next to other ATX z77 boards, you won't be missing anything by getting the Gene. It really is a brilliant little board.
