Which ram would you buy?

Hi all i was just reading the asus motherboard P8Z77-V Deluxe user guide and in there it says that this motherboard does not support DIMMs made up of 512Mb (64M chips or less (Memory chip capacity counts in Megabit, 8 Megabit/Mb = 1 Megabyte/M.

So my Question is which ram would you buy?

best look on the ram compatability list on Asus's site. I watched a video a lil bit ago where they claim they now are using future spec from intel for an upcoming change in chip design that allows more bandwidth. This vid said when they did their testing on the Z77 boards they used 2800 speed for all testing as a norm without any difficulties.

the vengance over the balistics mainly due to cost difference the 2x8gb kit is twice the 4x4gb kit. But both are great ram. But question knowing that the board you picked will do up to 2800 speed why get 1600???

You begin to pay a premium when you go above 1600, and, unless you're really into your rendering etc, I doubt you'll see much difference from 1600 RAM. A decent set of 1600 RAM can usually be overclocked a little higher, anyway.

My first question is do you even need 16gb of RAM?

If something other than "100% yes because ....." then something like this would be a better choice imo.

As i'm only going to be web browsing, gaming (bf3), music production i.e sampling, editing, and if what the user guide says is true then i'll only be looking to get 1024 x 64 ram and really don't want to spend more than £150 on ram

Hiya is that ram 1024 x 64 or is it 512 x 64

Your absolutely correct, especially when your looking for 1024Mb X 64 ram

Yes, what are you actually using the rig in question for? Unless you're gaming at huge resolutions or doing extreme rendering/ editing work then there is no reason to buy anything other than value RAM. I'd vouch for 2GB 1333Mhz CL9 Crucial Rendition at £7 a stick.

In the event someone is upset about spending a fortune on 8 sticks of 4GB 2133Mhz after reading the above, let me say that I have personally tested RAM frequency and latency and a whole multiplier bump or CAS increment decrease (eg. CL9 to CL8) will only earn you an extra 0.02pts under Cinebench R11.5 x64. tested on a 1090T and Formula IV with 2x 4GB of 1333Mhz CL9 Corsair.

Hell I bought some mushkin black line ridgebacks 2000mhz 8gig kit for 79.99 usd. It is CAS 9 so it will be plenty fast for what I do.

As others have stated when you get up to the 2133 you will be spending at least a 100 for a decent 8 gig kit and if you really want some nice ram be prepared to spend in upwards of 140 on up usd.
