I've always used PC Tools. It does the job and doesn't bloat like Norton does.

I use ESET smart security. (firewall + nod32 etcetc)
Doesn't cost much in the grand scheme of things. I bought a 3 years license for 3 machines and can add extra machines at reduced cost when I need.

None For my home/gaming pc is my choice... Have yet to find a AV that doesn't piss me off... Windows UAC does the job fine,,, if you ain't on porn / warez sites you should be ok.....
For business McAffe is the industry standard....

Kaspersky. Great software and you can usually get it for cheap.

I do not know what the best is, but I use NOD32 ESET Smart Security, and back that up with Malwarebytes.
