GAMING ON A BUDGET – MSI GTX 560 (NON TI)
NVidia have done some strange things to the numbering system they use to classify there cards over the last few year. If this is NVidia’s way to confuse there clientele then they are definitely succeeding.
I have recently picked up a GTX 560 non TI 1GB from MSI for a nice price of 155 Euros /170 130 GBP including delivery. After reading reviews of this card I was under the impression it was just a rebadged 460 with a little extra ram. Well I couldn’t have been more wrong……
The Card -
Based on the same 40nm process used for the GF104 the 560 non TI uses the latest Fermi GF114 Core which should lead to lower operating temps which has allowed Stock Clocks to brought up to 810mhz from 675mhz. Memory has also been bumped from the 460’s stock speed of 3600mhz to 4008mhz. Shader count is the same as the previous generation 460 - 336 in total.
MSI have also ditched NVidia’s stock cooler In favor of a twin fan radiator with 2 copper heat pipes which look pretty cool but not as cool as the Twin Frozr Cards. Power to the card is supplied via 2 6pin power adaptors (adapters are supplied). The card should fit easily into any medium size case withouth a problem but beware on smaller cases as the power adaptors could cause conflict with your hard drive sata cable. Output is accomplished via 2XDVI + 1XHDMI for a max out to simultaneous screens.
Overclocking
I’m not going to go into a full overclocking tutorial here as there are hundreds of guides around the web. Max Stable results on this card were 1005 Core Clock / 2010 Shader Clock / 2230 Memory Clock @ 1087Mv. Overclocking was easily accomplished via Afterburner 2.2.0 and temps during gaming are hitting mid 60s.

Overvolting
For the risk-takers out there you can download this unlocked bios which can take you over the 1087mV limit in Afterburner - Download
Benchmarks -
F1 2011 Average FPS 61 Min 55 Settings = Ultra
3dMark 11 Graphics Score - 4718 http://3dmark.com/3dm11/2713629
LUXMARK 2.0 Score 262 (Opencl seems to be crippled in the latest NVidia Drivers)
TESMARK 21374 Points (This actually beats the 6950 and 6970 stock speeds)
Conclusion and Gaming Video -
Great budget card for the entry level gamer. Capable of running most games at 1920x1080 with vsync enabled on medium to high settings. OverClocking is great and can give you speeds faster than a stock 560TI.
