i just found an old 80gb sata 2 hard drive and plugged it in but in windows it shows up as 38.3gb. any ideas what could cause this and how i could get the rest of it back

delete the partition then format it?

go to disk mangement (right-click on computer and click manage)

see if drive has unallocated space or in different format

delete partition / format accordingly - if you receive an error come back and i'll try to help you
