Hey, i just finish putting my rig together and the first thing i wanted to have a little fun with OC is the 580 matrix i got. so i've been running the Heaven benchmark over and over to see temps, and to see if it starts to get any artifacts (i don't have any games installed yet to try, so for now this will have to do)
i went for a 'max' OC but i don't think that i've even scratched the surface with this beastly card because i slowly went to 1001 MHz on the Core with 1.15V (maxed in GPU Tweak) but it seemed to have a few minor artifacts, so i used the voltage buttons on the card itself.. and BAM (jkjk) but that did fix the artifacts and it was running the benchmark great !!!
i'm done for the day, will try later for a better clock, also i should mention temps never got above 84C and the Memory clock was at 4400MHz
everyone feel free to say what you were able to achieve and/or any tips (seeing as this is my first time doing this, any help from this community is appreciated)

Generally around 850MHz is a sweet spot in terms of the noise its going to make and the performance you are going to get.
At 1025mV, I got 900MHz Core, 1800MHz Shader, 2200MHz Memory, and that I tested with Kombustor and OCCT with 0 errors, but it wasn't stable for Crysis2, so atm I run the card at 1025mV, 850core/1700shader/2048memory.
Its an MSi Twin Frozr II/OC, comes by default at 800core/1600shader/2048memory. Idle temperatures are 28-30deg.C, and max I've ever seen is 70deg.C, and I think that's in Mafia II, in every other game the max temperature is 60deg.C.
I'm sure it could overclock further but hmm.
Speaking of which, that's another tip-use games for testing the overclock, they use all parts of the graphics card more than any synthetic test will. Especially Crysis 2 w/DX11 and Hi-res textures, that's going to test your card pretty much to the limit.

hey, i'm new to these forums ( first post yay ), but as i will be getting my evga 580 soon to complete my system, i wish to ask you if it is worth it to buy the 580 now or wait for the 600 series from nvidia. Also i will keep you posted on my oc on the 580 when i get it.
Cheers,
Maniac

Waiting is not always the best idea, especially as its near half a year away, plus its a little while before the decently cooled ones come out-though from what I hear the cards will be much more efficient.
If its not urgent then you can wait, but if you're completing the system now, get the 580. As it is, it runs just about any game at maxed settings with very good frame rates. And I don't think many high-requirement games are coming out in the near future, except for games based on Unreal Engine 3 (which is godly) and BF3.

Thx for your reply "ya93sin", I think I will get the 580 as I'm running an i7 950 with a 4850, I'm not saying it's bad as I can max out 3/4 of the games with decent frames but I think it puts a huge bottleneck on my system. The BEAST will be mine in a couple of days. I'll keep you posted.

My GTX580 SOC is running at 930mhz core with shader clock 1860 and memory clock 2200.
Started out at 855 core/1808 shader/2092 memory clock

Assuming your TV is 1080p then the TI will be good enough. If you want a little more juice in the tank go 570 but at 1080p the 580 is overkill unless you just want to sit around overclocking and benchmarking it for the bragging rights.
I guess it depends on what you are looking for. If you want to use your PC for gaming and don't want to mess around with it all the time then a TI will be perfectly adequate with the 570 giving you more time without upgrading.
You'd be surprised how little you can get away with spending. Nfenix cost me £220 odd and runs on a 42" 720p plasma. Even with a core 2 it throws around Dirt 3 and BFBC2 like a ragdoll.

A 560Ti is more than good enough for a 1080p set up, you should be fine
Tbh, a 580 is not really neccessary, but I wanted to be able to max every game at decent frame rates, so I went for that over the 570.
Another thing is that I want to try out 3D when I go to Uni, so I need something a bit more powerful to keep the frame-rates happy.
