Is this possble?

I dont have to much detail on this BUT i have some friends at DeVry University that are attempting to do something that will change multi monitor/ REALLY high res gaming FOREVER!

They have just started this last week for a senior project, so details are still scarce. But they are attempting to make a way to add more GPU memory for cheap. They have thought of a solution that sounds simple in words but difficult to make work. They are wanting to create a PCIx16 expansion card with more memory modulus on it. Doing this will be a godsend to those who do NOT want to spend loads of money on multi monitor support (eyefinity) or HUGE resolutions performance (2560x1600). They have a dev team working on the hardware, and another creating the software (in other words a hacked driver >> Which will eventually turn into an .exe you can download and will do it all for you).

I am still skeptical about this whole thing but will not give my hopes up. Something like this will be groundbreaking IF MADE SUCCESSFUL! Just think... Buying a 6870 1gb $180 and you need another 1gb, 2gb, or even 3gb of video ram costing you maybe $60!

Currently they are ONLY working on this with AMD cards because AMD is the only manufacturer that allows 3 or more displays on one GPU. Also AMD is graciously supplying the hardware .

I cant answer any questions on it until my friends team starts digging into the project.

What do you think? Do you think this idea will work? If so how do you think this will change the Graphics cards?

I remember back in the day of pci video cards I had a monster or voodoo (cant rem which) that added memory to vc's I had like 2 16mg of these cards and added them to a 4mg card. with a jumper to the cards output ports.the 2 booster cards had internal jumper they had dual outputs you ran a vga to vga thingy to ur main card and ran off the booster.

Nice good project GL. I hope it works, should be logicaly possible and will stick a spanner in the market works, encouraging bigger memory retail cards so that's good for all, as AMD is supporting, hopefuly other manufacturers don't be greedy tight with supplying the needs, wich would loose when the expansion memory takes the cash off us.

I couldn't affor a Voodoo with the paper round salary. PC World opened down the road and they caught my eye and the local computer shop playing Quake
