Need some help folks. First time posting but I love the articles and seems like a right smart community out there.

This is what I have:

Noctua NH-D14

AMD Phenom X6 1100T

ASUS Sabertooth 990FX AM3+

G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4G 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333

MSI Lightning Xtreme Edition GeForce GTX 580

Antec High Current Pro HCP-1200

Antec P183 Case

Works brilliantly btw. People often question me why this build and it's purely for the future. This is the first desktop I've built since 2003 (Pentium IV). Decided I want to build for the Bulldozer and see what happens. I will SLI the GTX once it comes down in price.

Anyway, my problem is the Noctua. Fantastic cooler, worth every penny and then some. At 4ghz I don't think this thing is even on. But I want to add memory (and up it to 1600) and I'm running into clearance issues. Any suggestions on a low profile 16gb set?

Any help is much appreciated!

You can view the NH-D14's RAM compatibility list here.

G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB kit would be fine or Mushkin Ridgeback 8GB kit to fit in better with that board's colour scheme?

the ridgebacks will work but unfortunatly as the ripjaw X are taller than normal ripjaws they might have clearance issues. Why 16gig??? unless your vid editing 8gigs is enough. Hell even 4gigs is fine but I understad the wanting more lol. Keep in mind however you will oc better with only a pair of ram oc'n is a bit trickier with all 4 slots loaded.

I know BUT I have the D-14 and normal ripjaws and I know the clearance thats there and if he's serious about running 4 sticks it will be tight if they fit at all in first slot that is also keep in mind he's on a new 990fx board so it may or may not fit under it.

my CHIVE says use slots 2 and 4 for performance which I do and the fan can be adjusted up to allow fitting if using slot 1 well the fins of the D-14 overhang slot one just a word of warning is all.

You have clearance issues with G.Skill sniper?

I have almost the same exact build except a formula IV board..

Same ram & cooler

No issues at all.

I have the ripjaws not the (X) version its close but clears I know the (X) version is taller and might be an issue in the first slot as he is talking about running in all 4 mem slots. the formula boards recommend for optimal oc's to use the red slots which are slots 2 and 4 I am in no wat advocating they wont clear in slots 2 and 4 but slot 1 will be a wanker to get to clear imho

I stand corrected I finally found a site that showed the dimensions of both the X and non X ripjaws and even though in looks the X version are taller they are in fact 2mm shorter than the non X 40mm for ripjaws and 40mm for the ripjaw X and this is from G-Skills site I have myself staved off buying the X'x cause i thought them to be taller lmao

Will the '996997 - 8GB (2x4G DDR3 PC3-17000 9-11-10-28 Redline' ram from Aria fit under the Noctua Nh-D14? I'm asking as Aria says it doesn't, yet Noctua say Mushkin Redline does...
