Why are these new boards only supporting tri-sli but support 4x crossfire? I don't get it.

"The sink now looks more like a “big ol’ gun” and makes the Rampage III Black edition ideal for pawning noobs with". Firstly its heatsink and secondly that's possibly the most cringe worthy statement I've had to read in quite some time. The board however looks very interesting.
In regards to hdaviator's comment I believe its because it would necessitate the use of either a Nvidia nf200 chip or a Lucid hydra both of which cost a bit to put on the board I do however think it will have one or the other they just haven't said so yet.

I don't imagine it to a massive leap from the original.

Because they only have enough PCIe 16x slots for 3 cards. When they say 4x crossfire, they mean 4 GPUs, which can mean two 5970s in crossfire since those are dual GPU cards, and I'm assuming Nvidia dual GPU cards don't work too well so something, which is why SLI only goes up to 3.

This would probably sell well.
It's really not the type of mobo I'd recommend to a gamer, unless they've bought the best of other components first.

Zeals Sli goes up to four cards in the same way ATI cards can do 4 way crossfire. PCI lanes also really are not a problem as this board is sure to feature a lucid or NF200 chip as I've mentioned previously to increase the lanes, so it can handle four way sli/crossfire at full 16x speeds on all four cards. To be honest though for general use 4 graphics cards is not worth the initial outlay anyway.
