The unthinkable is becoming closer to reality it seems. The idea of AMD working hand in hand with little to no issue with a companion Nvidia GPU has come to light with the recent press release from LucidLogix. More info explains:

my iMac and MacBook Pro do that already

iMac has an ATi Radeon 5770 gpu, and intel onboard graphics, it swaps as needed depending on load

and my MacBook Pro has intel inbuilt and nvidia 320m ...again, swapping as needed

There are a lot of notebooks that do that, in nVidia's case the technology is called Optimus. It switches between the integrated and discrete graphics card on the go. You can use one or the other.

But that's not what Lucid's Virtu technology is about.
