Interesting read. One Avast license, licensed for 14 PCs, has been used to activate almost 800,000 copies of the software. Instead of disabling the license, Avast decided to let it go and see how far it would get.

lol!
interesting way to deal with it...perhaps they could start sending out ads to those licence users, or offer a buyout
edit:
read the article and thats what they are doing

I really hope we get a follow up to this to see what percentage of users actually buy the software after getting the option to buyout. It's funny that people still pirate Avast when there is a free version available.

Kind of ironic. I'll get my security software from a trusted source, like the actual producer of the software lol.

Sadly Avast ! is no longer needed or wanted for me. Microsoft Security Essentials is far more stealthy, works just as well and is completely free.

I will never trust microsoft when it comes to firewalls or AV. They've messed up too many times. (Windows Firewall, anyone? )

Have had loads of problems with it, blocking programs that shouldn't be blocked and vice versa.

So just a configuration issue then. Windows Firewall and Security Essentials are excellent alternatives to paid products. They may not be quite as good as the paid alternatives, but definitely can do the job. They are much better than using nothing.
