These are just 5xxxM under a new name, been around longer than you may think. Curiously I recall them being dx10.1 and not 11. Which would spec the 5xxx they chose were previously 4xxx in all but die size.

There was a minor riot at the time about AMD renaming a previous generation, not as big if they were another company of course. Makes perfect sense to me as they're perfectly good gpus and have been labeled accordingly to compare with the new ones to come which would go in the higher end laptops.

Would be nice if they actually admitted they were the same as 5*** units though so you could see how far down the pecking order they are in the newer line up. 100% get what you mean about them still being good usable units for mobile machines though.

I dunno, I'm kinda on the fence with the laptop scene. I'd be perfectly ok with them calling their gpus:

AMD 6300M: Standard (Dx10.1 4xxx series)

AMD 6500M: Enhanced (Dx11 5xxx series)

AMD 6800M: Advanced (Dx11 6xxx series)

(for example, no where near correct I swear)

Afaic, they've laid out the numbers kind of accordingly. Having a standard laptop with a Dx10.1 from the 4xxx series is still a decent setup, expecially if the said laptops are priced with their other components as just regular media/work laptops.
