Aims for GTX 560 brand

Only yesterday we wrote about the „475“ card and now we can tell you that most likely this card comes with a Geforce GTX 5x0 name. You can read it here. Nvidia has self-leaked Geforce GTX 580 in the high end and this card is based on GT110 chip, the successor and improved version of the original Fermi.

The „475“card is codenamed GT114 and it is likely to become the new Geforce GTX 560. Nvidia believes that their new cards deserve GTX 5x0 names, and this is what is supposed to happen.

This chip will put much more pressure on Barts based Radeon HD 6870 and 6850, but we are not certain when Nvidia plans launch its GF114 based parts. This launch could happen this year, or early next year, and it is clearly a management decision, as the chips are ready.

It all comes down to the current fight with Barts. If the price cut of GTX 460 and GTX470 doesn’t help and AMD manages to make and sell enough Radeon HD 6870 and 6850 cards, we can bet that GTX 560 will appear later this year.

At this time, this is something that Nvidia has to figure out on its own.

Agreed, lets rename the 400 series as the 500 series and call it a day....

NVidia should spend less on marketing and hire some thermal design engineers to build them coolers...

well the chip on the 460 has locked rops and stream processers apparently so they should just tweak that and produce faster cards

altho they may do tht with the 475

It's all to do with psychology. TBH the 4 series have a bad rep (due to the prices of the 470 and 480 and the heat they generate ETC). I don't think it's a bad idea going to the 5 number but it is very misleading.

I still think rebranding FTL *however*. If the card is as good as I am hearing then it can only be a good thing. Leaving behind the 4 series nightmare wouldn't be such a bad thing. The 460 really is a cracking card yet I bet they lost sales because people looked and them and thought "well the 465 was an expensive cooker so the 460 will be as hot and slower".

If anything they should have kicked off the 5 series with the 460 as a 500 or something.
