GTX 460 now $199, €169 In addition to the recent release of the 260.89 WHQL driver and in order to spoil AMD’s Radeon HD 6870 and 6850 launch, it has decided to officially drop the prices on its GTX 470 and GTX 460 boards.

Effective immediately Geforce GTX 460 1GB drops to $199 or €169 including VAT, while Geforce GTX 470 drops to US $259, €219 including VAT. The UK price for the GTX 460 is £149 and £189 for the GTX 470 and both can be found at those prices over at Scan.co.uk. The European prices are even a bit lower than the announced ones, and GTX 460 1GB can be found for as low as €159,99 and the GTX 470 stands at €209,99 over at Alternate.de.

Nvidia’s Lars Weinand, Senior Technical Marketing Manager, EMEA has confirmed these prices and he shared many links of the cards with these prices in almost all EU countries. Be sure to check your local etailer as they should adjust the prices to get close to new ones.

Mr Weinand also stated that “The price adjustments we made are not temporary, and are reflective of an upcoming change in our product lineup.” Nvidia gets better price / performance ratio and puts more pressure on Radeon HD 6870 and 6850, cards that should launch tomorrow.

End users will definitely get happy as both parties have to drop the prices to compete better, which means the end users win. The choice is of course yours

So dose this still keep the 460 as the card to buy or now dose the 470 become a viable card... Thoughts? I know there meant to be hot tho.

Timed perfectly to coincide with the release of the 6 series. Good going Nvidia, a good move methinks.

If they can get the 470 to cool better I could even consider it.

Oh my. This makes it even more tempting to add another 470. This is going to be an expensive Christmas I think.

I can only fit two 140mm dual rads in my system. Would that be enough to properly cool an overclocked i7 and two GTX470's? And holy crap at the price of 470 blocks!

Edit: I might be better off to just sell my 470 and pick up two 460s....choices.

on the 470 unless you go MSI with their twin frozrII or water reference design is way too hot on my 470 core at 750 as the bottom card while folding and fans and 70 avg temp is 55-65!

Well I dont know exactly how good 470s are, but they can be had for £30 more than a 460.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=GX-135-OK

I'm almost tempted to sell both my 5770s.

Power isn't the issue to me. They won't use an awful lot more than the 5770s. Cooling is, but there are ways of fixing that for about £40.

Obs I don't know how they score in Vantage and so on but if it can put out more than the 5770s as a single card I might go for it.
