Display and driver problem

Hey guys, i have an nvidia 9600 gso and in the last couple o' days i've been bumping into this issue where i'm playing a game and all of a sudden everything freezes, the sound starts looping and some of the colors go pink or green (like an old nintendo game would crash).

At first a simple restart solved the problem, later, after restarting the video driver got messed up and somehow i managed to reinstall it back and now i can't install the driver and i see a lot of flickering stripes on my screen. Also i can't access nvidia control panel cuz it says i'm not using a display attached to an nvidia gpu.

I tried to uninstall/reinstall the driver quite a few times but haven't solved much.

You have any ideea what this might be?

Thnx

First of all when you uninstalled the driver did you use a driver cleaner after the uninstal restart?

But in all honesty it sounds like the GPU is failing and will probably need RMA'ing (initial gut instinct)

^ Agree. The flickering and bright colored lines give it away. Time for a new card or RMA if possible.

Hm hm, well, good thing i don't have to tinker with it any more; bad news is i have to wait like a week till i find some time to go to the store to ask about warranty. But i don't get it, i had a pretty old busted ass computer before and the video card never gave any problems, do these newer models have such a short life span? :-/

Compared to some other products electronics vary greatly in reliability. I have been pretty lucky not to get any failed hardware for years (minus a possible PSU). Just because one goes out doesn't mean the overall quality of hardware is going down the drain. It just means you got a lemon that didn't show up until a later date. It happens.

I didn't say that, i was just wondering if it's supposed to be like this or it was a more or less isolated case .
