Hi Guys

I have built my new system this morning, with the R3E and 2 x GTX 480's in SLI..... But my idle temps for the GTX card are very high 79 Degrees...... I know these are hot cards, but surely not that hot....

Any ideas guys

Thanks

Hay

Are they directly next to each other or is there at least one slots width between them? As I've read that NVidia recommend at least a slot gap to help with SLi temps. I can only see it being airflow related if you're running them on air tbh.

Btw, SLi GTX 480's? WOW is all I can say!

yes they run that hot get uste to running them at 100% fan speed to keep them cool'er

but thats some graphical power there tho well actualy thats some insame system lol

Yes I have left one gap between the cards, the only thing between them in the sound card....

What program would you guys recommend for controlling fan speed etc ????

I'd probably think that the sound card would impede airflow across the tops of the open-to-air heatsinks, effectively incubating them, but I could be wrong. Have you tried with only one card installed to check the difference?

No I have Oc'ed them..... not intending to either.....

Have got a render test running. putting 98% load on the cards, temp is 91 degrees (OUCH!)

I have just installed EVGA precision and have noticed only one of the cards is running at 91 degrees the other is running a 67-68 degrees - on 98% load - fan running at 92%

yer check out rune's theory also touch the cards a little to see witch one is hot as it a big temp jump, bang the fans on 100%

This is how it is layed out at the moment:-

These are temps at moment:-

The top card will end up getting heat from the card beneath so I wouldnt worry tbh. Only otherway to test is swap the cards round ;)

Looking good Hayles but buy some zipties and get those cables sorted.

I will TTL, was just making sure everything was ok first

the top card reaches about 92 - 95 degree under full load......

Idle about 75 - 85 degrees, as my PC stays on 24/7 are these idle temps ok???? or is that to hot to stay on 24/7?

The clocks are higher on the top card aswell, hence the temp.... I have been told this is because there are 2 monitors connected

Ahhhh so its only idle where its doing more then? Just means its not dropping the clocks as far then probably. At the end of the day Nvid designed the cards, just leave them on 'auto' fans and let them decide how they want to be cooled.

I have unplugged the second monitor, and now the top card is idling at 55 - 60 degrees, and the clocks are the same as bottom card..... so that second monitor really makes a difference. But I do need it plugged in as I do my course work on that monitor

can you plug the second monitor into the other card????
