Ive been talking about this for so long Id almost lost hope in starting it! Regulars @ OC3D will remember this all started with HAFRAID. Thanks to our beloved Jim the specs of HAFRAID soon came into question, and what was a crazy spec'd NAS has become somewhat of an insane spec....

To try and mix things up a bit, Im not only going to be building this rig for myself at home, but also dropping reviews and guides along the way. Now Im no Cisco boffin, this is going to be a steep learning curve for me. I do hope that the reviews and guides will be easier for a beginner (like me ) to follow and implement themselves.
Anyways lets get a video in here so you can see what we have to play with!
This will evolve a fair bit but it will start as a NAS and then a DHCP router.
Saw this on your YT page not long after you uploaded it, its come along way from the HAF build and is looking good. I asume you tested the cooler on that set up for its review? 50C for a 4ghz clock is a freaking amazing tbh. Hope you get it set up for everything you want it to be used for and it lasts till you feel the need to fiddle and upgrade it again.

I have been gathering parts for this for a while, the Cooler was suggested by Noctua and tbh its spot on. Ill be explaining the parts and their roles/why I chose them in one of the reviews.
The idea of having this thread is so we will be able to use the reviews, guides and this thread as can have a single point of reference for conversations and any issues I, or even you run into if you build your own.
What would you use the server for Tom? 12TB seems too much for me anyway, but I know you make a lot of videos and such... is this just going to be a file server? I thought your job was hardware reviews and you work from home, so it wouldn't be used to access data via interwebz?
Nice setup there. I doing a pretty similar thing in my two rigs. One has a cheap celeron e3300 in it sitting at about 3.5GHz, R2 and about 500GB storage. Do you run a stripped down server 08, or do you put on all the bells and whistles (e.g. aero etc.)?
I also run an adaptec (5805) do you have yours with a BBU?
Looks a really nice system.
