Swapping and Overclocking

Swapping out my CPU today to see what I can get out of my girlfriends dual core CPU. Although it is inherently slower than my Qaud, once past a certain clock speed it should perform better. My Q8200 is a bitch to OC so I thought I might have more luck with her dual core. It's an E6600. Couldn't find that much about overclocking one, so I assume they aren't that great for it, but I might as well try! Also, I'm swapping all my stuff from my TJ07 and putting it back into my Antec 300.

Ok so that couldn't have gone any worse. Computer won't even POST. I used to get a beep from the motherboard when I turned on the PC, but now I get nothing.

I've tried resetting the CMOS, taken the battery out and put it back in, put my old CPU back in, cleared the CMOS again but now nothing Need help fast as I don't have any money to buy another Motherboard!

When I had put the other CPU in (My girlfriends one) It did give me a long very high pitched beep (or so I thought).

First check all cable connections.

Done that, nothing changed. I have reseated everything also. Tried to boot with one stick of RAM and nothing, don't have on board graphics so can't take the GFX out. The PSU is a BE QUIET DARK POWER PRO 750 watt. I don't think the MOBO has shorted on the try as the bushes it mounts on are huge. Really stuck now

It also sounds like the PSU doesn't turn off, although I'm sure it used to do that anyway, my old Thermaltake on didn't turn off until like 5 mins after...

Try rebuild again. The E6600 is not compatible for the XFX 780i http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/produc...List-Intel.pdf

Does your pc still work with your Q8200?

Right, problem solved. I reset the CMOS again but left it for ten minutes this time, then connected stuff again and it worked fine! So I put all the cables back where they were meant to go and put the side of the case back on, and guess what? It stopped working again, although this time I got one long beep and two short beeps.

Taking a wild guess, I opened up the case and unplugged the USB headers that I have been having so much trouble with lately (they dont work, or I can't connect them up properly) and sure enough, the computer started! So it's all sorted, just got to go back and re-apply my little overclock
