Why Usb for gaming headsets?

Ok i been looking into gettign a decent headset. ATM i got a set of medusa's TRUE 5.1 that are driven by true 5.1 from my soundcard then to a break out amp that you can wangle volume around etc.

So WHY THE HELL are all the Decent headsets USB based? logitech G35 and the new Razer canns.

I mean if your paying out close to £100 on a set of cans surley you would have a decent soundcard be-it an onboard Creative with your mobo or a aftermarket one. It just seems so stupid. The higher end headsets are almost ALL usb based using their own Usb based soundcards and Virtual 5.1/7.1 . Its just stupid and driving me to looking at a set of pure music cans and then buying a standalone mic.

I mean USB headsets use to be the 'laptop headset' now its the standard that everyone seems to be following. I HAVE A FREAKING PC WITH A £100 SOUND CARD LET ME USE IT NOT YOUR CRAP SOFTWARE BASED POO

Not all of them are at all. SteelSeries Siberia are jacks for one. ZOWIE Hammers do jacks. Mionix KEID 20s are jacks. Beyerdynamic do headsets with jacks.

Really. It's almost harder to find a good USB one.

Plus, headsets are mainly for LAN gaming, so USB is useful.

Agreed with you, headsets should all have a wired option.

However, the most popular gaming headsets out there for the sexbox is optical in I think, or 3.5mm jack. The Turtle Beech X41's etc I mean

One thing I comment on with all USB cans, they need an off button so you dont have to manually disconnect

The turtle beaches for the 360(x1, x11, x3, x31) are all 3.5mm jacks (1 for mic when used with a pc and 1 for the audio in via a converter from the consoles) except the x41's for the 360 that has optical only iirc.

i used to have a set of 5.1 medusa's till i knocked them off my desk and ripped the wires off all of the speakers in the mic side ear bit, sounded great to me using my mates x-fi elite pro & onboard why you wanting to get a new headset?

Me? I only have a set of Sennheiser HD555's at the moment, for music and general PC stuff. I play the Xbox 360 on my surround sound which is incredibly accurate (more accurate than X41's imo). I am considering a headset for later at night, but I don't need them as I don't turn down the sound a lot

Mhmm i like my x1's fine for cod/music, not given bad company a try with them yet but they will probably help a bit, the why looking for a new pair was aimed at welshy.

i was looking at a pair of sennheiser for music as dont realy talk when playing pc games so mic isnt that essential for me, i may pick a pair up when my money comes in in a few days
