£1500 to spend, what to get?
I thought I would throw this open to you guys for some expert feedback. My friend ahs got between 1500 and 1700 to spend and he wants a super duper gaming rig.
Please feel free to recommend your suggestions including OS.
Cheers in Advance

why not x58? i7 920 - or 950/960 if you can budget it right, but that might be stretching it.

i take that back - p55 board - the difference between the two chipsets is so tiny on this sort of scale, that you wouldnt notice it. p55 will be cheaper too - allowing you to splash out on other things.

Yeah that was pretty much my point. Plus the P55s have some of the newer features that are only trickling in to the X58 market.

Probably an hx750w psu, my Dad's rigs got one of those and it is brilliant. Maybe a Haf or similar case, a thermalright ultra or similar air cooler. Depends what the prices on the market are like at the mo. A samsung f3 1TB storage drive and 7 home premium.
If he's a student make sure to get it through software4students or similar sites for a massive discount.

Fairenuff, just in case. For this monery definitely a nice i7 p55 build, the gskill pi ram looks pretty nice, but there are cheaper alternatives out there.
Definitely 5870 ftw, but if he can wait for Fermi release, see what that brings (i.e. ATI may cut prices )
