What hdd
hey guys,my gf is getting me a new HDD for crimbo so ime getting ither a samsung 1tb f3 or a WD 1tb cavier black,whitch one would be better for use as OS,apps and games,most say the f3 but isent the WD 1TB abit faster.

needs to be quite and fast also reliable

Bump for this one, as I would also like to know which drive to go for! Would say tho AMDFTW, before you go mad and stick the drive in, save up for another and Stick it in Raid! Futureproofing and much faster!

i thought the F3 drives had a higher areal density with 500GB platters (making them faster) while the wd black still uses 330gb platters ?

[edit] i found some hdtune benchmarks (not supposed to post links to other forums tho. sry ) between a WD black 1TB and an F3 drive and the F3 is definitely faster in sequential benchmarks at least...

Awesome, Cheers pyr0 Really should have done some Googling on that! :P If Samsungs other kit is anything to go by I think the reliability on the spinnys should be better aswell!

Running 2 X F3's in RAID 0 at the moment... They are v fast.

Yeah, can confirm, got my spinnys last week and run sweet in Raid 0. Really fast, Knocked a couple of seconds off my loadtime compared to my Barracuda's... Def the way to go, and Scan are selling them at a good price so peace of mind aswell
