Need help building a rig

I'm a noob from Oxfordshire, I am looking at building a good gaming rig to play new games and also browse the net.

I intend on overclocking it as well as water cooling it at some point.

I am going to use my 32"samsung tv with resolution of 1366 x 768

My budget is around £1000

so far I am thinking of:

CPU:

Intel i5 750 2.6Ghz

GPU:

Sapphire HD4870 toxic

RAM:

Corsair dominator pc3-12800 1600Mhz 6GB

any suggestions on other parts or comments on what I have so far

Regards

Well with £1000 you should be able to build a proper decent rig m8, If it was my money I would ditch the i5 chip for an i7 (the 920 D0 stepping). I would also upgrade my GPU to a 5870 as well. Maybe look at a Coolermaster 840 case and dont forget to get a decent PSU. You can not really go wrong with Corsair memory.

With £1000 you should be able to build a pretty high end rig but if this is your first build I would suggest you go with air cooling rather than water as better to walk before you run.

And welcome to the forums btw

I have read that the i7 920 D0 stepping will go to 4ghz on air m8, so you wont have to wait till u go to water before overclocking!!

Is a good case by all accounts, Tom done a brilliant review also of the Coolermaster Sniper:

http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews.p...lack_edition/1

I would also look at the Coolermaster 840 if you have enough money.

The beauty of building your own PC is the fact that you can make sure its upgradable in the future, I would look at buying the following items and not scrimping becuse they will last you years if you buy clever:

Case - Buy the best case you can and read all reviews before deciding, make sure the case has the features to allow you to upgrade in the future

PSU - Make sure you buy a decent name brand PSU, again you want to get the best you can, you can buy a cheap one but then you will struggle to overclock and also if you do upgrade you may need to buy another one.

Monitor - I know you said you were going to use a 32" tv, not sure how that will be for normal web browsing and other non gaming tasks. Might be worth checking as if not you will need to look for a decent 22" ish monitor as well.

Just some food for thought, but if I can give you any advice it would be too read as many reviews as possible before making the final decision. There is plenty of people here that will be more than happy to give you opinions on each item so that you get the best bang for buck

Like I say if I was you I would be looking at maybe the below:

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Intel X58 Motherboard

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping CPU

Coolermaster ATCS 840 Case

OCZ Gold 6GB (3x2G DDR3 PC3-10666C9 Low-Voltage Triple Channel Memory

ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024MB GDDR5 GCard

I havent put a PSU , CPU fan or hard drive as I am not sure what you require, so you would have to have a look at them.

Thats just a rough list that I would be looking at in your price range. I am sure others will make suggestions as well that may save you cash

hey man,ok you have a big budget for an aircooled system and judderman has given you alot of info, but i will give my 2cents

the case (CM 840) is amazing its huge tho but its slick and very nice and will and is perfect for airand water cooling

and the GPU well you have seen the reviews ime sure and that card is awsome if you have enough money after getting all the parts (prepheals INC) then get 2

also monitor wise i would get a 24'' (1920*1200/1920*1080)

any other issues let me no

the cpu is also perfect, can get to 4Ghz on air with ease as jud said so there is no other reason to get a higher spec one

i would change the Mobo tho and get the Evga 4way sli or the 3way sli, they are good for Ocin ide lean more towards the 4way

the Ram is good but i would get ither platinum or BLADES or even reapers

and PSU i think i decent 850w would do it,maybe tagen or corsair

optical drives are cheap nowaday but liteon and optaric are good brands

CPU fan you cant beat the True or the sunbeam ccf or as a bang for buck the Darknight
