Study: Windows 7 doesn't boot faster

Although Windows 7 has been praised for loading and shutting down faster than prior versions of Windows, one software company says that, in many cases, the new operating system can take longer to get started than Windows Vista.

Source: cnet

'Course they're mainly talking about the bloated oem-esq builds and all that come with them.

I counted the seconds for my gaming pc the other day cos another thread was talking about boot up times. It took about 90s from selecting Restart on the Vista desktop until I could launch a game. This includes the AHCI bios check thing at the beginning.

With these little studies (and ofc u have to do ur own research here cos if u look into it, the people saying it's slower actually sell products that can speed up boot times ) it brings me back to a thread a while ago about games being slower than Vista.

Progress ?

Mine is very fast at loading up thankfully. On a slightly different note, it took about 20 minutes to install windows 7 ultimate 64 bit yesterday, i was very impressed with that.

I imagine this will improve over time as MS update the OS. Vista was a bit flaky when it first came out, and boot times is something that's pretty hot atm, I'd be surprised if it wasn't addressed.

Just waiting for my delivery of Win 7 to turn up on 22 hopefully ,

I have a few new pieces MB, CPU RAM waiting for it to turn up. I will be gutted if there is a delay.

Who is using Ultimate?
