usb problems

Right, i started the rig on my page/profile thing yesterday to install win 7 and NONE of the usb ports worked, it worked last time i used it a few weeks ago.

First when i tried to turn it on (vista business) it came up with "bootmgr missing CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart" i tried that and thats when i realised the usb wasn't working, so i plugged in a ps2 keyboard and decided to install win 7 as it was going on anyway, installed 7 and usb still wasn't working.

so far ive tried...

Bios flash to latest

Ran Intel chipset update to latest

Currently trying editing the registry with one from another pc's that runs fine

ALSO it can see an lg pen stick in the bios (comes up with name) but wont show it in 7

and the usb config is:

functions [enabled]

2.0 controller [enabled]

2.0 controller mode [ high speed]

bios ehci hand off [enabled]

port 64/60 emulation [disabled]

legacy support [auto]

Any and all ideas would help

-Hunta

just tried another psu, that didnt work either

Jeez that's a weird one.

I would have imagined since XPSP2 and upwards that USB drivers are included within the OS. Windows 7 can't be any different, they're most certainly in Vista.

This isn't a really old mobo either is it ?

All I could seriously suggest is removing all USB devices, and doing a damn good BIOS clear. Once booted back, load fail safe into it and boot to the OS, without making any cpu setting changes or anything.

The bootmgr thing can be the result of a fsb overclock, where the harddrive isn't being read properly. (kinda besides the point, but it happens alot)

The fact that ur pen is appearing in the bios kinda steers me away from suggesting u've overloaded the usb power rail. Generally when this happens the OS sees it as a non specific device and won't load drivers for it.

Be sure the device manager hasn't got any weird driver messages.

10/10 for a strange thing to post about on a sunday evening tho.

I remember there being a "error 45" or similar message in on the usb devices at some point, as for the damn good bios clear i flashed it and left it at default settings after that and still no usb.

How would i go about getting an rma on the board? as i brought it 2nd hand, the uk asus site says 3 years warranty but you need to contact your reseller, which i cant do.
