5.1 Surround Sound Help

Hi all,

I baught today the Trust sp-6250k 5.1.

Hoped to get them home and have them up and running smoothly but my plan didnt go accordingly!

I set them up perfect, no hassle.Booted up. Configured them to 5.1 in the windows default sound control pannel. Tested each individual channel. Worked perfectly.

Now heres the strange part, I attempt to pay a media file (mp3, WAV, Avi.all the usual stuff) ONLY THE LEFT AND RIGHT CHANNEL OUTPUT ANY SOUND! The sub, centre and rear channels dont ouput anything!

I Did a bottom-Up Diagnostic. I Checked all cables n blah blah blah. I tried using winamp wmp klitewmpclassic and vlc. All only output to 2 channels. I tested on both my intergrated sound (Realtek) And my sound card ( X-fi Xtreme audio)

ALL FAILED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plese someone help! I'm so frustrated!

Thanks in advance for any advice given!

Sounds files are either stereo or mono mate. Meaning only left and right.

Unless you have some sort of feature in your music program that can make it play on all speakers then you will have to stick to it.

Games, Blu-Ray movies and things like that tend to use surround sound no?

I wonder how big an average mp3 file would be like if it originally has 5 channels.

I have 5.1 speakers with an x-fi gamer soundcard and it outputs to all channels using anything i play on my pc avi files, wav , mp3 so your soundcard or speakers are faulty or the correct software is not installed....

Have you got the creative sound application installed with the things like x-fi crystalizer installed?

Also have you changed the speakers round to make sure all of them work?

i.e the 2 speakers that work, front left and front right, swap the inputs around so that the rear left and rear right cables are plugged into them instead of the front left and front right, and do you now get sound out of those speakers? I am just rulling out faulty speakers.

Regards

Ian

I think ( note the think ) that if you had a stereo signal that was only 2 channels left and right, you would have no bass at all from the centre speaker or the sub woofer?

Or maybe the soundcard and the software combined turn the stereo signal into 5 channels but also adding bass.

I dunno.

Have you got Realtek sound manager? if so it needs to be on 6ch, but I found with my soundblaster that I had to move the plugs around untill it worked right (ie got 5.1 surroundsound).

Uh, well stereo content is supposed to be output on two channels. Some sound cards have "sound enhancement" features to use all the channels. It should be somewhere in the Creative apps. Otherwise, if you use foobar2000 or Winamp, try to find an older (freeware) version of the ATSurround plugin.

Thank you to everyone who has replied.

I have tried various different methods and all failed so i returned the speakers and upgraded to the Logitech x-540 5.1 speaker system.

The X-50 is an improvment in both quality and performance. It's definetly worth £70

But, The rear left and right speakers sound a little distorted and quiet. High frequency sound plays for instance high hats and vocals but things like the sub bass do not output.

I have no idea as to why this happens and have tried every possibility i could but still no luck.

If anyone has any insight as to why this is happenng then please inform me.

Thanks again to everyone that has replied!
